selecting an officiant

When selecting an officiant what do you look for?  I am not religious so I have to find someone who is ok with that.  But other than that?  Any recs?

The officiant was the vendor I had the most stress deciding on.

Two of the more used officiants were already booked.

We met with two officiants. The first one talked most of the time about random things, asked nothing about us, and I didn't care for his voice.

The second officiant invited us to his home, asked a lot of questions about us as a couple, what type of ceremony we would like, etc. We spent at least half and hour with him.

I would say go with your gut feeling. You can usually get a vibe right away when meeting with the officiant.  Meet with more than one officiant before making a final decision.

I am a little vain and I didn't want some fat ugly old looking dude. I looked on the knot and did a google search for officiants. I came across two that I was interested in meeting with. We ended up going with the first and only person we met with. His name is Rev. Glynn Ferguson with Sensational Ceremonies. He looked the part, voice was great, and he was willing to work with us to personalize our ceremony. I agree with PP and to go with your gut. I think I already had made up my mind that I wanted him so there was no need for me to meet with anyone else.
    Good Luck!

I would highly recommend our officiant, Reverend Georgiana Johnson. We were in a similar situation, not wanting an overly religious ceremony and she was more than happy to oblige. She has a variety of different ceremonies you can choose from, and you can custimize it to your liking. Very pleasant experience with her so far, easy vendor to work with.

I have found that most people who advertise themselves as Officiants and have a website etc. will be willing to do something less religious. Just don't go to a church looking for someone! lol

Oh I'm in the same book as Erica but just sitting here talking about it with FI, we think we'd prefer a guy to a chick marrying us (I have no logical idea why, it's totally sexist I know). Our package with the RC includes an officiant but I guess we'd have a choice, we'll see who they come up with and pick the one we like I guess. But we're not religious too and want something light hearted and uplifting!

DH and I were in the same boat...we're not religious (in fact, we're agnostic) so finding someone was hard for us at first.

We used Rev. Georgiana Johnson, and she was perfect for us! She made our ceremony exactly what we wanted. If I'm not mistaken you can contact her through her website.

    HTH!
