Are Programs Necessary?

I am having a Catholic non-mass ceremony, so there will be no cummunion but there will be a few readings, songs etc but only like 30 minutes (as opposed to an hour long full mass). I feel like most people (at least in my area) are familiar with the order of Catholic ceremonies.

Re: Are Programs Necessary?

  • Nope, they aren't necessary.

However, if you'll have guests who aren't familiar with the order of the service or who don't know your bridal party, it might be nice to have something.

  • I don't think they are necessary, but they are a good way to communicate things like the bridal party and any special thank-you or memorial messages.  I always like when there is a program so that I know the agenda and how long to expect the ceremony to be - but I am a little neurotic in that way :)

  • Nothing is necessary. You can have programs if you want. I have been to weddings that have not had them and the wedding still happened and the marriage is still legal =)

    Agreed. Like always.
  • Not necessary.  Just nice if people dont know the wedding party or if anything in the ceremony could be confusing.

This exactly. We have quite a few Jewish friends and others that aren't Catholic, so we're including one. Also we want to recognize those that are taking part in the ceremony.
  • Thanks for all the feedback! I think Im actually starting to get sick of doing wedding stuff.. so many things to worry about for one day!

  • I am having a catholic non mass wedding as well & i think while un necesary programs are nice to have so people know the order of things & what to expect, as well as what the readings are, while paying tribute to those passed on along with those in your wedding party. You can get them for cheap from vp.

  • I'd rather not use all that paper. We're introducing the wedding party on our wedding website, and any liturgical stuff will go up on the powerpoint.

  • We are skipping them because our ceremony is short and they really aren't that necessary. Our party is introduced on our website and I think people will be able to follow along just fine.
