It would be awesome if someone knew the answer to this.

So, hypothetically, if FI were to ask me to make cookies and, hypothetically, I were to oblige him and then, still hypothetically, I ate four of them before I could stop myself and wanted to assess the damage, I would hypothetically ask this question. Any hypothetical input is appreciated. I can obviously calculate calories by adding up all of the ingredients in the recipe, but I also know that baking is a chemical reaction and therefore can change in the free energy of the species involved, so does anybody have any idea how I could expect the nutrition data to change? Is it not enough to worry about? Again, this is all hypothetical.

Re: It would be awesome if someone knew the answer to this.

  • Do you have a recipe for these hypothetical cookies?

  • I know that when I used to do weight watchers I used to calculate 2-3 points per cookie. It usually added up to 100-150 calories or so, depending on what kind of cookies they were.

What kind of hypothetical cookies are they?

  • Here are some egg amounts for you:

Egg, whole, raw, fresh - 72 kcal per 50g

    Egg, whole, cooked, hard-boiled - 78 kcal per 50g

Egg, whole, cooked, scrambled - 85 kcal per 50g (I converted this to 50g)

    Egg, scrambled - 105 kcal per 50g (I converted this to 50g

And it looks like from what I have read motly nothing changes calorie wise.

  • I would have hypothetically used this recipe as inspiration: allrecipes.com/recipe/mrs-siggs-snickerdoodles But I never stick to recipes exactly. I'm pretty convinced I always know better than the recipe creator. Lol.

[QUOTE]I've wondered this too.  But then I thought that WW would definitely account for this, and they actually do - and nothing changes for baked goods.  Here's why:   4 oz of raw skinless boneless chicken is 3 points.  4 oz of cooked skinless boneless chicken is 4 points.  Why?  Chicken loses water when it cooks, so that 4 oz raw chicken turns out to be something like 3 oz of cooked chicken.  Pasta is the opposite because it takes on water and expands.   But in the case of chicken and pasta - the weight and/or volume that is gained or lost is due to water - which as we all know is 0 calories.   When you make a cookie or cake - you put in let's say 1 lb flour, 1 lb sugar, 1 lb butter.  After baking you are left with that same 3 pounds of stuff which is probably lighter than 3 lbs, but may be bigger in volume (think a cake or bread), minus any water that evaporates.  The calories won't change.  That's why 50 g of scrambled eggs is slightly more calories than 50 g of raw eggs - the water evaporates so you need more egg (protein and fat) to get 50 g of cooked product. Cooking DOES create chemical reactions by heat, but nothing changes a protein to just water.  Same with sugar and fat.  When heated too high - oil can turn into trans fats.  But it won't become 0 calories. CN: The answer is no, baking cookie dough does not reduce the calories.

  • Those must be some damn good hypothetical snickerdoodles and now I would like some as well! Do you think if I do like 200 hypothetical jumping jacks after I eat them will that burn off said hypothetical calories?

  • Add all the calories of the ingredients then multiply by 0. Why? Because I said so. :)
