Cincinnati wedding with CHARACTER!

Hey, girls!

I've been searching for the perfect venue in Cincinati on my tight budget.  I've looked high and low for a place to accomadate 150 on a budget of 1,500 (including rentals - yikes!) and am not having too much luck (as you can imagine!).

So far I've looked at the Centennial Barn, the Hayloft Barn, Alms Park, Ault Park, the French House, the Mulhauser Barn, Fort Thomas, and the Niederman Family Farm.  I've come pretty close on a few of them (the NFF being the closest) but I thought I'd ask you for your ideas!

What places have character?  I don't want anything cookie cutter and I definitely don't want anything expensive.  Where do you think I should get married?

Heidi

Have you looked at parks?  Lakes?  I don't know if you belong to a church that might rent you the tables and chairs you'll need for cheap.  Just some ideas.  Start thinking about what you can make spaces become.  HTH.

Yep - I've looked on all the parks department websites... I've even been calling camps I went to as a kid!  The Church I belong to is in Tennessee where I live most of the time (real bummer!)

I just went to a bridal shower at pride park community center in taylor mill, it was nice and only 300 and had TONS of amenities, the only thing is I'm not sure it holds 150...maybe check it out?

I think there's a community center in Southgate that may hold some charm for you.  Lots of windows, as I recall.

You might also check the 20th Century Theater in Oakley.  The owner is fabulous to work with and will help you create anything you want (he was telling us the last time about working with someone to rig a plane to fly down a line and crah into a wall) - they're so accomodating and seem to really enjoy making your day your way.  We're getting married there in June and thought the cost was affordable, no nicklel and diming or hidden fees like we found at other places.

OP, you've checked out all the places I looked into before I settled on a venue!  We were also on a similar budget with the same # of guests.  We're having our ceremony and reception at St Elizabeth's Cathedral in Norwood.  It's an old Catholic cathedral that has been acquired by a non-denominational church and the sanctuary area is now used for community gatherings and events like weddings.  It has amazing floor-to-ceiling stained glass.

    Here's the church's website:

They don't have many photos up but you can see a bunch on Flickr here:

It's only $500 for rental (plus $100 security deposit) and it includes enough tables and chairs for 150 (if you mix table and chair types).  You get the full venue for two days (Friday and Saturday) for setup and rehearsal.  Everything is DIY but the church will break down the tables and chairs and empty trash for you after the event if you want them to keep the $100 deposit (totally worth it).

You said that you looked at all the park websites but I'm wondering if you checked Clermont County?  They have a really nice lodge that has an outdoor gazebo suitable for a ceremony.  It's sort of tucked back in a bit of wildnerness and is really pretty, peaceful and quiet.  I think it's somewhere in the range of $600 to rent as well and it includes tables and chairs.

There is also the Leapin Lizard art gallery in Covington (right across the river from downtown Cincinnati).  It only seats 140 and I'm not entirely certain of the cost but the venue is gorgeous.  It's an old Baptist church turned art gallery.  It also has some pretty amazing stained glass.

I booked St. Elizabeth in Norwood and am super excited about it. It's different than anything I've looked it and is super inexpensive!

Friendship Park down by the riverfront is beautiful.  Also, Baker Hunt Art School in Covington has a nice outdoor area.

Thanks for the advice! I'm looking for the same thing with the same number of guests. I will definitely check out St. Elizabeth's. We looked at Leapin Lizard and loved it, but it's not handicap accessible which we need.
