  I chose a partial planning package with my planner and I'm very happy that I did.  I had already settled on a venue (including caterer and cake), church, and photographer when I met with her, so I didn't really need full planning service.  I also was inclined to go for just a month of package, but I ultimately decided that I'd just upgrade to a partial planning.  That way, she's helped me plan my event design and has helped me select some of my vendors and made suggestions about others.  She also helps manage the budget, remind me when I have payments due, and checks in to just get me thinking about certain things.  Again, these are all things I could do on my own, but I thought it was worth the little bit extra to have the help.

  I have a partial planner, and I sometimes wish I had just booked her for DOC, plus paid her by the hour for the additional things I need. The main things we needed her to find were venue and an officiant, we were able to find the rest ourselves, so sometimes the money doesn't seem worth it.

  
  

  So I think it all depends on what you are looking for a planner to do-do you need someone who will find you most or all of your vendors or is there just a few things you need her to help you find? Do you have a definite style in mind, or do you need someone to help you brainstorm? 

  
  

  My biggest complaint about my planner has been the response time-sometimes I send her an email and it will take her a week or longer to respond-that is not OK with me. I would definitely set up expectations-how you prefer to be contacted (email vs. phone), typical hours you are available (I can't talk until after 8pm during the week, is the planner OK with later phone calls?) and how quickly you can expect an answer/information.

  Thanks for the great advice!  May I ask what planners you both have hired?  I am meeting with Erin from Proud to Plan tonight, but should probably have another option in mind, just in case.  I am leaning towards the partial planning service because it seems to be the most help that will fit in my budget.  I will definitely use your questions when we meet!

  Erin comes very very highly recommended on this board, as does Mary Rose Memories.  MRM did 3 brides here, including the other mod.  I believe her website is www.maryrosememories.com but i might be wrong.

  I'm using Caitlin from Just be the Bride, and she's been doing a fabulous job.  I've already had several vendors and potential vendors pull me aside at meetings to tell me how well prepared and organized she is.  Her website is justbethebride.com.

  I wanted to come back and update you since you were all so helpful!  The questions you gave me were fantastic and she answered them all thoroughly and was very knowledgeable and friendly.  I am definitely going to book with Erin and think it's going to be really fun having her as my planner.  I'm so excited to get started on plans!
