I'm in the process of finding a DJ and have already spoken with several people including Melody from Melodies and Memories and I really like her on the phone. And I know she gets GREAT reviews on here. She went over a lot of information with me already.

I would like to set up an in-person meeting with her but I have no idea what I should ask her at this meeting. So, what kind of questions did you ask your DJ or potential DJ's when you were looking?

    I asked mine (Discovery DJ) how a typical wedding goes. I wanted to feel out if he was a jokerster who was contantly talking, or if we accounced the main events and stayed quiet the rest of the time. I also wanted to see if he would let me have a "must play" "maybe play" and "NEVER play" lists.. I just basically wanted to see how active he was. I also asked if he usually eats dinner at the weddings.. I am doing a seated plated dinner so I wanted to know if I had to include his dinner too.

    He is great, you should look him up if you are still looking.

    A good DJ (or any vendor for that matter) will do most of the talking.  My DJ asked about our event, how did we see it flowing, what would the age groups mostly be, what "tone" did we want him to set for the event?  After we talked for awhile he said, "Ok, so you want elegant but fun."  We said yes, that was it exactly.  We hired him on the spot and we weren't disappointed.

    We asked him about his equipment, his attire, and pricing.  Closer to the wedding, we discussed play lists, specific music choices, timeline, etc. 

    IMO, the most important thing about a DJ is do you "click" with him/her and do you feel like you are on the same page about how you want the reception to flow.

    The one problem we had with Melodies and Memories is that we had a theme for our reception and while they seemed to understand it, in the end they didn't.  So if you have a theme in mind, let them know and make sure that they absolutely understand (not 'yeah yeah, I gotchas') and are okay with not doing whatever they want.

    Can anyone tell me about Melody and how she used the lighting? I was considering her or someone had previously mentioned http://www.djsofdallas.com/index.htm ... I'm wondering about their quailities of emceeing and use of lights.

    We went and sat down with Randy Ro Entertainment today. Very laid back. I asked him how many weddings he has done, some things in regards to our venue, what type of music is most played, ect.

    I went to the Ft. Worth Bridal show and I actually won a drawing with DJ Connection. Very different personality, very outgoing, funny, friendly, etc. He's pretty much telling me everything I need to know! More n likely, we will probablly go with them (my fiancee' loves the youtube videos). But it is still up in the air.
