Childrens wedding gifts

I am getting married for the 2nd time in June and my son(9) is giving me away and my daughter(6) is my only bridesmaid. They are delighted to have a part but I have been racking my brain to give them some type of gift to make the day memorable for them and I am coming up with nothing. All help is appreciated.

Re: Childrens wedding gifts

  • A  6 & 9 y.o. have no interest in a "memorable" gift.  Don't waste your time wracking your brain over this.  Buy them a gift they will like, just like you would for a birthday or holiday.

We gave my husband's daughters (my new daughters :) )  lockets with the date we all became a family engraved on the back.  They LOVE them... and always ask to see them (they were only 5 & 3 at the time so I'm keeping them safe and sound until they get older)   A watch could be a great gift for the boy.

  • I have to disagree and say that it depends on the kids.  Mine are 15, 13, 12 and 11.  I'm doing day of totes with a lot of the typical stuff you would find in an Easter basket or stocking stuffers, but I'm also doing some special gifts.  They're all getting water bottles with their names on them (this is something they will all love, they're just weird that way), the boys are getting pocket knives with their new monograms (they each want to take FI's last name as their dad hasn't seen them in 2 1/2 years) and my daughter is getting a charm bracelet that I made.  Their totes are custom to each kid so they'll have that as well.  I'm big on personalized, memorable gifts and so are my kids so this works for us.  I would go with something that is an interest for them and then find a way to also make it special in regards to your big day.

Wow!  I am surprised their Dad will agree to this.  My xH didn't see the kids for long periods of time, but would have shot to the moon if I had proposed this.  Particularly with his son. ~Donna

I apologize for going a bit off topic, but how does a nine year old give away an adult woman?
  • My 9 yr old is giving me away because I do not have a father to do so. As he is as the man in my life he is giving me to my future husband.
  • I recently took my previous wedding set to a jeweler to be disassembled and have pendants created for each of my girls (16 and 12).
This has far more meaning to me than anything else I could have given them. We have created a new little family, but we are remembering and honoring the marriage that they came from.
  • My 10 year old walked me down the aisle , his daughter (9) was a bridesmaid and my 9 year old son was a groomsman...we got the boys tickets to a yankee game for my husband to spend the day with them ( a little bonding trip ) as they are all obsessed with baseball. I took her on a "spa day" ( we got our hair done, mani/pedi's) because she is a complete girly girl ! ...they all had alot of fun and it was a memory we created instead of "stuff" that will get tossed in a drawer.
  • My 9  yr old son is "giving me away" also! he is beyond excited about it!! IMO it just makes him more a part of the ceremony (yes i am fully aware "a marriage is between a man and a woman..or W and W or M and M") but we are becoming a family also with the union)
Thanks for asking the gift question bc i dont know what to get my son either
