Valentine's Day..kinda long!

How was everyone's night?  Ours started off with dinner being ruined :(  My puppy decided to make my homemade lobster raviolis his dinner (it was the first time I EVER made pasta).  It's my fault for leaving them on the counter unattended! I was literally in tears.   But, it all worked out..I ran to the market and got stuffed salmon with crab and just made penne instead.  After dinner FI gave me a really cute gift.  He has hardly EVER done anything really romantic for me and this was the nicest thing he has ever done!  He gave me a really sappy card and he wrote me a note in the card about the night we met and how much he wanted to talk to me and no one else in the room mattered :)   Then he gave me 4 beads for my Pandora bracelet!  He wrote a cute little note for each one. First one was a green and gold glass bead and he wrote that it was to symbolize our wedding day, second one was a flip-flop so that I can always remember our honeymoon, third one was a double heart and this is what made me cry...he said it symbolized 2 hearts becoming one :) and lastly was a red heart for Vday and he wrote "Freebee" which was cute cause he got it for free LOL.

So, did anyone get any special gifts they want to share?

Re: Valentine's Day..kinda long!

  • AW how cute!!! Let's see, I started off by putting a V-day card in his lunch for work that had a sappy little note about how honored I am to be his wife and how it's our last Valentine's as an unmarried couple :)

He took me out to lunch and we had margaritas and burgers at Chili's <3

When I got home from work, I totally rearranged my house and brought the table in the living room and set up our table for 2. I already had rose fabric cut out placemats and silver chargers from Pier One. I cheated and grabbed my tallest arrangement for our centerpiece and added paper lanterns hanging off of it. I then filled the house with votive candles, including a votive fire place screen that we have. :)

FI and I have this thing...one Valentine's, he sent flowers to my work. As sweet and thoughtful as it was, I asked him in the future if he could just buy me a bottle instead, since it's the same price- LOL. He walked in with his 'boquet' of flowers aka my bottle of fav. tequila :D

Then we ordered pizza and wings and drank tequila, while listening to 'Micheal Buble' station on the Pandora. So romantical :)
  • Aww, that sounds like a good night (other than the doggy eating your dinner).

We had a great dinner that FI made - steak and crab with asparagus. YUM! We opened a bottle of wine and then headed to bed early (wink wink). It was a perfect evening!

We had exchanged gifts in the morning. FI got me a gift certificate for an hour long massage. With all the wedding stress, I DEFINITELY need it and can't wait to use it!

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • That's super sweet.  My FI rarely does anything super romantic like that so when he does  it's really special.  Puppies get into everything don't they!!!!  We decided to keep this valentines day on the DL with everything going on and the fact that we just celebrated FI birthday and mine not too far behind his.  We exchanged cards and candy and went to my nephews first birthday party.  He's a valentines baby!
  • I left FI's gift on the counter before I left for work in the morning so that he'd find it when he got home. I got home late because I had my 2nd dress fitting after work.

When I came in the door, he told me to stop and stay right where I was. I had to open his card before I could go any further because I'd ruin the gift!

He got me a super sweet card with a pop-up tree in it that said he couldn't wait to grow old with me, like the tree :)

Then he showed me my gifts - two pots of flowers (tulips and geraniums)! He said that he got those instead of a bouquet because we could plant them and watch them grow - like the tree grows in the card and we're growing old together. I had tears in my eyes cause it was so sweet! And he got me Reese's PB cups (my fav!).

Then we went to dinner at King's Fish House... and I ate way too much food. Of course.

  • I gave him a card and chocolates and a XBox game and he gave me a cute card...that ended with "from your sexy hubby" - and he wrote underneath - "well almost! Only 18 days to go";

Then he took me to dinner at this steak house we had never been to. I had lobster & crab cakes (suprising I liked it since I don't really like 99% of the seafood out there), grilled australian lamb chops (so yum) and a grand marnier creme brulee. SOOO yummy! :)

I STILL have never gotten flowers from him even though I tell him all the time. grr. It was still a great day though.

  • We just gave each other cards yesterday. Since we bought our HM excursions as gifts last month.

My FI isn't all the romantic so for him to get me the card he did I was shocked. It talked about all the ways he loved me and that forever didn't seem nearly long enough for us to be together. Then he wrote some cute message. My favorite one was "I love you now and I will love you then". I am not a crier but that one got me.

We made an ordinary dinner and then watched the movie Valentine's Day.

I was off yesterday so I spent a good chunk of the afternoon making golabkis (Polish cabbage rolls), which are a favorite of FI's.  He mentioned them to me once when we had first started dating and I made them then but hadn't tried since (apparently while that first time was a 'nice try' these tasted JUST like he remembered if not better - I had to boil the cabbage a super long time!).

When he came in the door I made him a martini and we sat down to eat - I had set the table with our new china and silverware (we had gotten both for Christmas).  He brought me roses and I admit it, we cheated a bit and used the vase my grandparents gave us for the wedding for the flowers.  He had gotten me a necklace, earring, and bracelet set I had seen at a city market (he left me looking at perfume and went back and bought it) - they're heart shaped beads with a pink metallic swirl in them, so pretty!  I got him a travel journal for the honeymoon in addition to the dinner and a card that was so sappy that he got teary eyed while reading it and I started crying while watching him read it.

Only thing that sucked is after we finished eating I was just suddenly SO tired.  I had to take a nap before we had dessert (almond cake with strawberries).  All in all a wonderful night but I didn't get back to sleep until after 12 and had to be up at 5.

And I had rented the movie "Midnight in Paris" but we didn't get to watch it.  Hopefully we'll watch tonight.

When I came home from work FI surprised me with flowers and 6 balloons.  I gave him a card.  We then went to see The Vow and had dinner at the same restaurant we went on our first date.  It just so happens that they sat us at the same exact table.  It's kinda funny- our first and last date as a non married couple was exactly the same (minus the monsoon rains the first time). The best part of our Valentine's date is that the entire thing- movies and dinner only costs $26! It would have only been $16 if we hadn't gotten a drink for 2.

Um me too.  I ran over lunch to target to get him a couple of small things.  Like a box of chocolates (I guess they were more for both of us because I knew he wouldn't get me candy) and a bubba keg for the HM.  I was expecting flowers or something I guess... And nothing. To his defense he said he thought there was a flower shop in our town (we just moved) and apparently there is not.  He said he stopped at all of the gas stations and the grocery stores and they were all sold out...  We did go out for dinner but of course my fish sucked should have went with the steak : (

Oh well and I tested out his bubba kega and sure enough the thing leaks so I've got to bring it back. So yeah that sucked.

Well, at least we weren't alone! Fi was off Mon & Tues & didn't even go get a card. A friend at school felt so bad for me that she went and bought me a little box of chocolates. And my daughter shared a package of candy from her school loot with me last night while FI was having basketball practice. That was super sweet of her.
