Just got engaged!

Hi everyone! I have been looking at the boards for a while now, but have only officially been engaged for 2 days!! My BF of almost 6 years proposed totally out of the blue on Monday night and it was wonderful!  We are excited to start planning our wedding where we both grew up (and came back to), The Cape!  We are looking at a date sometime in October or November of 2011, and will probably be looking for venues from Bourne to Yarmouth.  At this stage we are open and haven't really sorted out any of the particulars, we are just enjoying our engagement!   I look forward to reading things posted here, I know they can be very helpful!

    Congratulations! I love New England in the fall, which is why we are getting married this October.

    One tip that I didn't realize until I had booked my date-- there is a big difference between Columbus Day weekend and the weekend after. Our wedding is Columbus Day weekend and most hotels have 2 night minimums and places have high or shoulder season pricing. The next weekend hotels would have been easier to find and we might have had more wiggle room for discounts, but of course the weather gets iffier. So just something to be aware of, since you are looking right at that time.

    Congratulations!

    My BF of five + years proposed about two weeks ago, totally out of the blue (to me at least) so I know the feeling.

    I'm hoping for a Fall Cape wedding too, maybe Sept. 2012 or maybe October.  I know prices drop after Labor Day for room rates, but I'm not sure if they would be even lower after Columbus Day?

    Thanks for the tip on Columbus Day...everyone has said that's when we should do it because people will have an extra day, but I know what you mean about pricing...might be worth it to wait a little while..

    Neilio27- Did you find that you have been thinking about an engagment and then all of the sudden he did it when you least expected it? that's what happened with me! haha

    Definitley!  It's crazy b/c several years ago he got a little tipsy one night and told me that if he had a ring he would have proposed right then and there.  I freaked out. 

    It's only been in the past 9 months or so that I even started thinking that "sometime" in the future that getting engaged wouldn't be such a bad thing.

    We were actually out in Colorado visiting his family when he did it.  We went hiking one morning and poof.  I was beyond shocked, but not I'm insanely happy!  So no complaints.
