  • Mostly FI and I.

His parents aren't able to help us financially at all, his dad was laid off over a year ago and hasn't found a new job and his mother is a part time sub.

My dad was laid off a few years ago and found a new job, but it's not paying as much as he previously made so my parents haven't been making much- so needless to say, FI and I will pretty much be paying for everything.

  • My parents are paying for pretty much everything.  FI and I are paying for a little and FI's parents are paying for the parts of the wedding that have to do with the Indian traditions.

  • FI &I are doing it all. This is my 2nd wedding so it makes no sense for my parents to chip in at all. I wouldnt even ask them. Plus they just dont have it. FI's parents offered to help and I appreciated it but told FI that I dont feel comfortable at all asking them. This was a big contention point for us . UGH.

  • My parents are paying for half of the wedding. FI and I are paying for the other half. We may get some assistance from FI's family, but we're not sure at this time because nothing has been mentioned. Either way, we can take care of the other half. =)
  • hisbabygirl: Does FI want his parents to help pay?  Or are his parents upset that you refused their help?  If you want to do it on your own, then you should!

I feel guilty all the time that my parents are paying.  They offered, but it makes me feel bad.  Sometimes I think about canceling the whole wedding and saving everyone a load of money!  But I'm the only one in the equation who feels this way.

  • Mel FI was upset for one that I wasnt asking my parents to help out and didnt understand why I was graciously declining his parents help. I cant ethically ask my parents for money when they already did this once before. I cant ethically accept his parents money when I wont ask my parents. Besides we are (atleaset I am lol) older then the average bride. I dont know if he has even told his parents we werent accepting the money. Honestly Id much prefer to hop a plane and fly south and say our vows on a beach LOL

  • hisbabygirl: I totally agree with you.  I feel the same way- my parent's marriage was a second for my dad and they couldn't afford a wedding, so they got married with a justice of the peace and went to lunch with their parents.

SIL is getting married for the first time, but this is FI's second wedding and he just got divorced in December and has 2 very young children.  His parents (I don't think) aren't paying, but hers are paying for this very large, very over the top wedding.  I think I might feel weird about it even in her circumstances, although I'm trying not to judge the situation.

  • It can get frustrating. My younger sister got married 2 years ago and had a big wedding. My older sister got married 12 yrs ago and had a small 30 person wedding. I much preferred hers :)

  • It's a pretty equal split with ours between us, his dad, his mom, and my parents, partially because we're still in grad school. My parents gave us a set amount they can give and his parents agreed to split whatever was left. My FI payed for all 3 rings and is covering his groomsmen stuff and I'm covering a fair bit of other stuff- what I'm wearing, bridesmaid stuff, favors, some deposits, etc. I'm pretty sure if I asked, I wouldn't have to pay for any of it, but I feel like whatever I can afford to pay for, I should. I feel like I have more ownership of it all if I contribute too. I feel insanely lucky that everyone offered to help.

We're still keeping everything in moderation though. I'd feel guilty spending crazy money or having a large wedding even if family offered the money. As it is, looking at the total is a little scary.

Dang it, I really need to update my siggy. Must remember to do that tonight.

  • My parents are paying for our photo dj and video and his parents paid for the deposit plus a little more on our venue. They are both going to be chipping in wherever that want and can.

Then FI and I will pick up the rest. We got very lucky I was thinking we would be covering more of it ourselves but his dad was very generous in helping. He said he owns his own business so he can afford it.

I was not expecting a lot from my parents so what they have offered to pay, I was so very grateful for it.

My dad and step mom are giving us a set amount that can be used towards whatever we want. My mom offered to help pay for all the stuff I plan on DIYing. FI and I are paying for the rest. FI's parents are helping at all, but I never expected anyone to help because it was our decision to get married.
