Wedding Invitations & Paper

Question about timeline of sending out invites!

My wedding date is: 12.1.12
I plan on sending out invitations in the middle of September.

Shower invites sent out the 1st of October - having the shower the 1st of November.
(we are moving out in November, would like some of our gifts for our apartment, is that bad?)

This timeline might be hard to read.

Is this appropriate?

Re: Question about timeline of sending out invites!

  • That makes sense.  I never thought of that.  Heaven forbid we don't get married, but I can see where that is proper etiquette!

  • I sent mine out on January 15 for my April 7 wedding.  I wanted to give people six weeks to RSVP for the wedding and another month to chase down late RSVPs.  It has worked out fine for me.
  • I don't think they are way too early.  It's 10 weeks before the wedding.  6 weeks before RSVP's are due to be sent in.

I'm having such a small wedding (80 guests) I don't think it would be too big of a deal.  I hope not anyways!

Thanks for your suggestions, I need to talk it over with my MOH.
  • 6-8 weeks before the wedding is the standard advice. Be on the early side if there were no STDs and guests will need hotel rooms and/or airline tickets. These things go up in cost if scheduled less than 6 weeks in advance. 10-12 weeks is the advice I got for international invitations.

A month to track down missing RSVPs is a lot of time. I'll give myself 1 or 2 weeks, which will likely mean RSVPs due 3 to 4 weeks before the wedding. When you gather addresses, gather a phone number or e-mail address, too, for this purpose.

lovethebeach is right that travel can take time to arrange. If you send invitations 6 to 8 weeks before the wedding, not everyone will be able to RSVP immediately. That's why the deadline is 2 to 4 weeks before the wedding. That gives them 2 to 4 weeks to make arrangements.
  • It is 6-8 weeks, but I sent mine out at 9, and I don't think 10 weeks is the end of the world. But really, people only need a week or two to decide if they are coming. So maby mail them October 1 or September 30.
