Hi Ladies,

So we are looking into ceremony plans and are unsure if we want anything other than our actual vows. We have decided against the unity candle because my fiancee does not like the fact that it gets blown out following the ceremony, are unsure if the church we are having will allow us to have sand ceremony (still not sure if we want it). I've read about trees and love letters and wine boxes. Any other unique ideas? We want it to be something more personal to us but we just don't know what. Thoughts? We've been together for over 8 yrs and are pretty darn unified already but wondering if there is something else out there that we'd like to incorporate into the ceremony. Thanks!

I'd just rewrite the actual vows to make them however personal you like without adding "unity" elements, because your wedding is by definition a "unity" ceremony on its own.

We did a wine ceremony because wine was important to the family and to us. It was really fun and unique, and we did a toast with rose champagne to continue the theme.

We're not really doing anything at all, since it's not required and I'm just not fond of most of them (no offense to others, they're just not me.) The only "extra" thing we're doing is jumping the broom since it's tradition in his family and it means a lot to his parents that we do it. If there isn't anything that really speaks to you, you can go without. No one will care, or likely even notice.

My fiancee Bob is my everything,sadly God put him into my life when he has terminal lung cancer,but I am not running from it.
I am loving him with all that I have and then some! He has 6 months to 1 year.But we have decided to take the option of tumor removal...,The place of the tumor is right against the esophagus and a rib i have faith God did not bring us together for nothing

Anyway our ceremony will be most sacred and sincere,loving and tearful.But out recieption will be his. Although its the brides day everybody will be chanting BOB />BOB>BOB!!!! All the ladies can have their dances and he can feel the john travolta at the dance. I want to see a HUGE smile on my mans face!!! Thats what our day is About. Don't settle for anything less! I hope every wedding and reception to be as meaningful as ours.GOD BLESS!!

Thanks! It was super fun, and a lot of the guests thought it was cool (especially my dad, he's a wine columnist).

We did a wine box and love letter ceremony, but at the reception, not at the church. As soon as I read about it, I loved the idea, and my uncle built us a beautiful box for it.

We did a wine blending ceremony too. It went over really well, and the pictures are cute. DH didn't realize the mini bottle of red was still capped and tried pouring it (obviously unsuccessfully) until the reverend pointed out that uncapping it would help... I wish we'd hired a videographer for that moment if for nothing else.

My favorite alternative to the sand ceremony is the salt covenant. I also like the idea of a bread breaking ceremony (bread is a HUGE deal in my family).

In the end, if nothing really resonates with you, it's okay to leave out the symbolism and just go with your vows

We are doing a Scottish Quaich ceremony, which is basically a unity drink ceremony. We are mixing Jack Daniels and Gingerale. I pour Gingerale from my glass into the Quaich and my fiance pours Jack Daniels from his. My dad, who is our officiant, will then drink from the Quaich since my fiance and I don't drink alcohol. It means a lot to us since we both are from Scottish decent.

I LOVE this idea! My fiancee and I are really big fans of wine and I love the idea of somehow incorporating it into our ceremony. What was said when you combined the red and the white wines? Thanks!
