  When did you get engaged?  When will your wedding be?  Think about what is personal for you.  You could dress in constumes for Halloween.  You could combine the engagement photo and a "Save the Date" picture magnet.  You could hold giant numbers of the date or write it in the sand if you are taking them on the beach.

  I would encourage you to stick to the traditional. Certainly you could go to the beach or a location that is important to you. You don't have to pose in a studio...
  
  People who try to do something that no one else does end up on sites like "Awkward Family Photos".

  I'm sure you and your photographers can come up with some cute ideas on the beach if that's what you guys are into. Surf boards, cute umbrellas, write something in the sand, maybe do something in the evening and have a bonfire on the beach?

  I hated every engagement photo I saw on Pinterest. My FI and I simply aren't the type to stand in a field of wheat at sunset staring at each other. We chose a nice park and comfortable clothes, then took our dog and daughter and the photographers just sort of followed us around while we had fun. We got some great shots but it doesn't look like we were trying too hard. 

  
  

  I feel like some of the more "unique" ideas I've seen come across just as cheesy as the more traditional ones, just in a different way.
