Media refusing to tell the news?

I've heard about this in more than one pro-life/Catholic media:

http://www.lifenews.com/2012/05/23/catholic-leaders-outraged-over-media-silence-on-hhs-mandate-lawsuits/

CN: 43 Catholic entities are suing the Obama administration for breach of religious liberties.  Major news media outlets have BARELY mentioned it, if at all.

This is just so frustrating to me.  News media outlets shouldn't be able to sway one way or the other.  It drives me bonkers that people that are anti-Catholic will do anything in their power to make us look bad.

Re: Media refusing to tell the news?

  • I don't know if this is true, or how they would quantify this, but I read at one place (Fr. Z?) that this is the biggest lawsuit in the history of the country? To put it in perspective...

  • It was front page of our very liberal newspaper.
  • There was a 20 minute segment on FOX

  • I don't have television, so I don't know how widely it is reported, but they talked about it on the news show I listen to in the mornings, and reported it on my local Fox news app, at least!

  • This reminds me of the news coverage of the March for Life.  Our local paper showed a picture of about 5 or 6 pro choice protesters and the headline was about how "hundreds" were marching on the Supreme Court to withhold Roe v. Wade.    So - what about the estimated hundreds of thousands that attended who were pro-life?!?!

The only way I knew about the lawsuits was because of my Facebook news feed and email updates from Lifesite news.

Our paper is so liberal it is crazy.  And they attack the Catholic church any chance they get. They refuse to publish pro-church letters to the editor but in the same time period, 5 or 6 anti church ones will be posted.  It infuriates me.
  • I totally agree Chelsea, so frustrating!  This is huge and it affects all of America, why can't we hear about it.  We hear about how the latest celebrity went to jail but we can't hear about anything that actually pertains to us and our freedom!! gah!!!!

  • As an adult you have to realize that all media is slanted.. Sorry but it's true.
What you see on FOX news will differ vastly from CBS news.
No one is objective but I do agree that they should be.

I do realize it.  That doesn't mean I can't be pissed by it and find it to be extremely ridiculous to call anything one-sided "news".
  • It is worth noting that media outlets are very much a business these days, and some are struggling, so they report on things that will get viewers. More viewers = advertising dollars. Sad, but true.

Also, the source article may not be entirely "reliable" in terms of accurate, proven facts being reported. The Media Research Center that is mentioned in the post you linked is a conservative organization with the sole purpose of proving there's a "liberal bias" in the media - of course they are going to say something like this. I did a quick google search and found plently of local and national articles from journalistic sources about the issue.
