kids say the darnest things!

I work at a nursery school and summer camp and I absolutely love love love my job.  However, what I sometimes do not love is that children sometimes do not have filters.  I went to go pick up my students lunches and there was a group of children in the room.  I had to squeeze around them to get the stuff and as I was leaving I heard one of them say, "She looks like she is having a baby!!" 

Well, lets just say that I'm not having a baby and I did not eat my lunch today.  I know that kids don't know any better and that whoever said it probably didn't mean anything nasty but it still made the rest of my day suck. :-(

    this is the situation where if you were their teacher or able to talk to them you would prob explain how people come in different sizes and that just becuase someone is larger does not mean they are having a baby. i know it sucks though.

    I should add that I did hear their camp counselor say something to whoever said it.  If it was one of my students I would have said something to them, but seeing as I didn't see who it was who said it and I am not one of the teachers in their group I figured I would let their counselor handle it. 

    I have the 2 year old class so I'm pretty lucky that I have kids who aren't remotely effected by people of different sizes, shapes, colors, genders etc.  If you love them-they love you! That's why I love my age group they aren't ruined by the negative things in the world yet.

    I have had something similar happen to me before so i kinda know how you feel. 
    One night while I was babysitting one of the little boys asked me why my butt was bigger than his mom's.  She was horrified but I laughed and told him people come in all different shapes and sizes.  I think it comes from a curiousity place (or at least thats what I tell myself).

    Im sorry that happened to you. I know the feeling. It is even more humiliating when another woman mistakes you to be pregnant. I wear a size 14in jeans. I was in target last night in baby section looking around I have an 8month girl and 3yr boy. Lady is walking by with her loud toddler I smiled and she says enjoying the shopping now while you can go alone I mean c'mon! My stomach does not look preg however im stuck w extra skin so I tend to wear looser shirts with empire topish. I joined ww 3weeks ago for my Sept 15 wedding down 6.3lbs. And she totally burst my bubble!!!!;

    One of our friend's kids makes comments like this to me all the time. She just doesn't realise the connotations of it - she wants a new baby playmate. She's their middle child. Her parents apologise all the time for it but I think its funny.

    She came over to me one night. She'd been wanting cuddles all day but I'd been busy/occupied with her sisters. I said 'come on then, I've got a Mary sized space on my lap right now'. As she was getting up, she asked me if I was having a baby. I asked her why she thought that - she told me my belly was big. It was really funny to me.

    Now, mind you. If an adult said that to me - totally different story. I wouldn't even take that from family members. We're TTC soon - but - I'm pregnant when I tell ya I'm pregnant. Not when you're staring at me judging me.

    One of my third graders hugged me this fall and he goes "Miss M are you having a baby?! I swear I felt it kick me!" I wanted to die! It hurts more than you think it will when you hear it. 

    People need to learn: you don't ask a woman when she's due or insinuate she's pregnant unless she tells you or you see her giving birth. End of story.
