Choose your own price/secret hotel pricing

Hi Ladies, have any of you ever booked a "secret/last minute cheap price" hotel or used the name your own price (like on Priceline)??  We're looking to book a hotel for our honeymoon and one city is quite a bit more expensive, so I was thinking this might be a cheaper option, but I'm a little concerned with not knowing which hotel it is before paying/reserving.  Normally we use the trip advisor reviews to choose a hotel in a new city.  Just wondering what experiences everyone else has had.  Thanks!!

Re: Choose your own price/secret hotel pricing

  • I use priceline all the time, and have never had a problem.  Just be aware of what star level you want.  If the hotels that you want are 3 or 4 star hotel, don't select a 1 or 2 star when bidding.

As long as you select the area you want, and the star level, you should be fine.  But, if you need the hotel in a very specific location (like, on a specific street, or within walking distance to a certain attraction), you may not want to go with priceline or hotwire.

But, if you are fine with a "region".  Like, "downtown Los Angeles" or "French Quarter" in New Orleans, you should be fine.

    Good luck!
  • I agree with PP.  Used Priceline many times (especially Baltimore) and never had an issue.

  • If you go through the Secret Hotel where they give you a description of the hotel before you buy it a lot of the Trip Advisor boards for the city you are looking at know the Hotels. So you could try asking them if they know what hotel it is on those forums.

  • Also, check out www.betterbidding.com. You can see if there is a "pattern" for the hotel you want on this site and how much it's going for to help you plan.  I've never booked and not known what I was getting by using this site.
  • Cool, thanks ladies.  We tried, but apparently our bid was too low ($99/night, 2 or 3 star).  We ended up finding a well priced one for close to our price in the area we wanted.

  • I love priceline! We just used it this weekend for my bachelorette party and 'Downtown Dallas' got us right in downtown for super cheap!
