Asking an Officiant...

When I was a teenager, the senior pastor of my home church was someone I really respected and appreciated, and his wife is sooo sweet! He and his wife retired and moved away, and I haven't really stayed in touch too much over the years. However, when I think about who I want to do the ceremony, I can't imagine anyone else but this pastor. I've been in touch with his wife, and I have his e-mail address, but I'm not sure how to ask him if he would be able to perform our wedding ceremony. I know he'll remember me and my family, but I haven't actually talked to him in a really long time. Any suggestions on how to word this e-mail?

I'm assuming your FI is ok with this?

If so, I would e-mail him just what you've written here. Let him know the influence he was in your life, and ask if he'd be willing to officiate your wedding.

For what it's worth, the officiate at our wedding flew to AZ from FL to marry us. He had been away for  several years, but had a huge impact on both our lives (and sort of introduced us). You don't have to be married by someone you see everyday. ;)

I think your pastor would be honored to be asked...he can always decline if he feels the need.

azdancer gave really good advice so there isn't much more I would add except to say that he will probably be honored to do the wedding for you as long as he is available.

I agree with the girls! He will definitely be flattered and honored that you still think that highly of him.
