Belle Isle Weddings

Have any of you to a wedding, or had your wedding on Belle Isle?

My FI and I went there recently and looked at the Dossins Great Lakes Musuem and it was absolutely beautiful, however, we want to look at the conservatory too.

If any of you have any words of advice or any experiences let me know, please! :)

Re: Belle Isle Weddings

  • I have not been to 1 but I vaguely remember someone getting screwed over by them majorly when they brought the races back?

  • I went to one at the conservatory last Feb. It was very pretty, but only good for a small ceremony in like 30 people or less. I thought the grounds around it was awesome for pics and inside already has flowers so you hardly need to dress it up.

  • Our wedding was at the Detroit Yacht Club. We loved it. It has a great terrace with lovely views of the skyline as well as all the boat docks that guests can wander. They have a couple rooms to choose from and the staff was really great to work with.

We did a shuttle for our OOT/hotel guests from downtown hotels to Belle Isle. It worked OK, but we should've given the driver the shortcut through the island. Turns out, he drove all the way around the perimeter and it added another 20 minutes onto the turn times of the shuttle probably.

I also really love the Belle Isle Casino, and it has a great terrace and views as well. Downside here is that you have to bring everything in (it's basically a blank canvas) and it's run by the city and I've heard they can be difficult to reach. But, if you're looking for a blank slate kinda place, I think this would be great!

    Was the club really costly?
  • Missy - it really depends on your definition of "costly" and also what you're looking for. We did a lot of upgrades: premium alcohol, late night snack, extra appetizers, and a duet entree of fish and beef. Had we stuck with their general package (includes some appetizers, call bar, and done a chicken entree) then we could have done it for about $60 a head I think.

  • I am doing the casino and so far so good. This is a complete DIY project! Everything you need is from scratch, and it can get expensive quick. The conservatory is good for a very small wedding ( 25 guests).

  • Shira I am doing the casino also next august.  I am really just stressing putting it all togther and keeping costs down.  Did you find a catering company that did a lot? Cause thats what Im looking for.  It is nice that you can bring your own liqour in cause that can help keeping costs down.
