October 2012 Weddings

reception on a budget

I am getting married on halloween and having a small reception, less than 25 people, so I dont want to have a huge reception, but I still want to decorate our space with a Halloween/Fall theme without being tacky. any ideas?

Re: reception on a budget

  • I don't love the colors orange and black but if you want to roll with it for your wedding, go for it!  I think small little pumpkins would be nice on the tables.  I believe someone is using them for her escort card display (see a discussion below).  If you want, you could probably make tissue poms with orange and black tissue or streamer material (and find a diy demo online for how to make them).  If you want to move more in the fall theme, you could get fake leaves and put them on the tables around a bunch of small votives.  Most of the decorations, I've found, we really on the tables, so that's why I think if you do a simple fall themed spread on the tables, it will look nice without breaking the bank.

    Good luck!

  • I would also lean towards more fall colors than halloween colors. Rich red, orange, and yellows. You could use napkins with fall colors, or use seasonal produce, like pumpkins, squash, and apples in bowls. You could also look into seasonal wild flowers. You can get flowers pretty cheaply if you use a grocery store floral section, and with only  around 25 people you probably won't need many.

  • We are also getting married on Halloween. But for our reception we are using metallic silver, blue and purple as our colors, so I'm not much help. But I just thought it was cool that we have the same date! I haven't seen anyone else on here with the 10/31 date.

  • What if you used carved pumpkins for your centerpieces, maybe with a candle inside? I think that would be cool w/out the tacky halloween factor. OR you could do those pumpkin baskets you use for trick or treating and fill them with candy! Ok I'm getting excited :)
  • You could use those white pumpkins somehow (maybe as centerpieces)- incorporate halloween AND wedding!

Google "white pumpkin centerpiece" - there are a lot of great ideas.

  • I would do painted pumpkins (less time consuming than carving half a dozen pumpkins...). Craft stores sell fake pumpkins you can put initial decal on front, and lots of other fall-themed decor. I am doing red/brown/yellow as my colors. :)

  • I'm doing the fall colors (scarlet, copper and brown). so I don't think i'll be much help.

One color combo that looks great together is purple and orange <clicky>. Alsoyou could have pumpkins either the white or orange like other pp have said.

There could be a selection of gourds and use them as centerpieces with some candles (or a candelabra...saw some that we cheap at Marshalls) I don't think you would need many considering there is a smallwer guest count. Hope it helps.

  • i know we are doing pumpkins painted with halloween scenes, and our colors are red and black. doing cupcakes instead of cake and making them myself. but other than that i am stumped.
  • Black table covers, red napkins, pumpkins, how about some lanterns or candles? Still holding out for the candy somehow :)
