It's definitely too late to change the order. It's been in since early September. The dresses aren't supposed to be in until mid-January as it is (Alfred Angelo is running slow right now), and I'll still have to ship hers to Calgary -- which means we're cutting it ridiculously close as it is.
She needed an 18W and I ordered a 16W. I should probably bite the bullet and order another one in her size and put a rush on it. I'll have to eat the $200, but at least we'll know we'll have it in the right size and on time. $200 is a small price to pay to have my FSIL not hate me, right?

Exactly what I was thinking. Have you called the place you ordered it to see if there was anything they could do as far as getting another dress?
And the whole time, my future husband was in the room......
I have had several friends order dresses from AA and every one of them has been WAY too big. Did she try the size she needed on or did they measure her? They usually add extra because they want you to have to get them altered. Hopefully this is the case. $200 is a lot to eat on that. Can you see if anyone is selling one second hand in that color.
Did she go there and get measured? I bought my wedding dress from Alfred Angelo and tried on a couple of BM dresses from there and I am a size smaller there than I am at most other dress stores.
It's a fairly simple A-line dress, Aprov. There's no extra length but if she has time to have it altered -- which is a pretty big if, unfortunately -- she could probably get a corset back put in fairly easily.
YI & dmiller -- We ordered it online based on measurements taken at the store. The sample didn't fit, so she wasn't able to try it on first.

I was actually going to chastise you for apologizing.
You know what? I'd call the store (or even AA directly) and ask what they think before you do anything major like drop $200 on a new dress.
Buy her a couple of months worth of Nutrisystem as a bridesmaid gift?
I. AM. KIDDING.
I'd say have her try it on. More than likely, you can make it work. I wouldn't buy another dress. I would pay for any extra alterations she wasn't expecting and apologize to her. Is she a roll with the punches kind of girl? Or will this make her really worried?
And Celles, I'm sorry you have such a hard time ordering. I hope things get a little easier for you.
