Superbowl Party

Hi, ladies,

I'm about 2 weeks out from my wedding and trying hard to shed the last couple pounds. I think I can do it, but I mostly want to make sure my face un-swells from all the processed food and salt. Any suggestions (other than carrots, celery) on what I can bring to a Superbowl party this weekend to feel like I'm partying (wooo, diet!) and yet still not blow up like a blotation device?

Thanks!

FI and I were just talking about that, too!  He's ordering pizza, and I'm, well, not.  I love doing the special k/corn flake chicken tenders for football.  I feel like I'm eating bar food, but it's not bad at all.  Then you can add some fun dipping sauces, too.  We also might makeup some sweet potato fries - another super lean, but wonderful football snack.  Let me know if you'd like recipes for either!

  • That's a great idea! I make the panko chicken nuggers (as I like to call 'em), and I love them. Panko isn't low sodium -- but it doesn't have as much as PIZZA!!

    THANK YOUUUUU!!!

  • Yeah I know!  All the junky "party food" was one of the reasons I told fiance I'd rather just watch the game at home...I really don't want to be stuck eating hot dogs or hamburgers or chips and dip.  I was planning on making some seafood gumbo or meat and bean chili thinking it would be festive but I could control the nutrition by serving the gumbo over brown rice or using turkey (or at least extra lean ground beef) in the chili.  Which will give us leftovers for healthy lunches too :-)
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • I just got an email from HungryGirl about "better" Super Bowl eats. She linked to a couple of products she likes: vegetarian "buffalo wings," and pizza pockets. If you go to her website (hungry-girl.com), click on "Ask Hungry Girl" and it's the newest entry called "Super Bowl Swaps." Have a fun party!!

  • Emeril has an AWESOME recipe on foodnetwork.com for baked jalapeno poppers. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/emeril-lagasse/baked-jalapeno-poppers-recipe/index.html Instead of cream cheese, I use light Laughing Cow spreadable cheese. You just mix it with spices and mozzerella, fill jalapeno halves, roll em in panko bread crumbs and bake. Nom nom nom. THe only problem I have is eating too many of them.
  • Oh wow, that's awesome Dancesaurus Rex and lizziemc1775! Thank you!!

  • It's about over, lol, but I sauteed some shrimp with olive oil and lime instead of munching pizza with my FI and brother.  It was a good finger food and not too fattening, as long as the olive oil is in moderation.  I did partake in a cheese ball and just one soda, though :)
