centerpiece idea - opinions

hey ladies -

my mom and I were looking around online at different ideas for centerpieces...came across this one - put those glow in the dark necklaces in colored water in a vase (this is the cheap route)...just wondering if anyone's ever done this or seen it? I think it could turn out looking really tacky and cheap, but my mom said maybe when it's dark it would just add a pretty mood...opinions?

    P.S. Those white things in the middle are glow in the dark ice - we would not do that!

    I think it depends on the overalll theme of your wedding. Haha, I was going to refer you to save-on-crafts, but I see that is where you got the pic. It's hard to say though, I think this idea could go either way.

    If you are looking for glow for your centerpieces, consider using lots of candlelight (cylinders, floating candles) - that can also get you the effect using natural light sources versus artificial. 

    IMHO having lighted cubes or glow in the dark necklaces might seem too night clubby.  You might even have guests pluck them out of your vase and wear them or put them in their drinks!

    I agree with Golfer, not sure it is very formal, but if you aren't going for that then maybe it doesn't matter. i have also heard people get lamps from Ikea as centerpieces if you are looking for light?

    I agree with Golfer and sgylling. Especially about the guests taking the glow necklaces out of the centerpieces, they may think they're favors. I do think it depends on the overall feel of the wedding but not sure if you could really get away from the clubby feel of this

    Thanks ladies - yeah, I agree, I think it looks too clubby. Our weddings not SUPER fancy or anything, but it probably just doesn't really go with...I love the floating candles and incorporating lots of candles...haven't really looked into it...can you do that on a budget?  The lamp idea is cute, too!

    I, too, was looking for affordable centerpiece ideas.  If you sign up for Michael's email list, you'll get coupons every week for 40% off any regular priced item and sometimes 20% off your entire purchase, etc.  I print out multiple copies and my fiance and I go together and get two items for 40% off each.  They have TONS of things that can work for centerpieces.  Lots of glass containers, glass beads, floating candles, etc.

    I have bought several unmatched glass containers at resale shops and Michael's, on average costing around $3 each.  I watched the Michael's ads and found when the glass marbles went on sale for $0.99 (usually around $2.50) and bought a bunch, and I'll be putting floating candles or betta fish in them as centerpieces.

    Also, Ikea has a lot of things that could work as centerpieces - lamps and decorative glass containers in interesting shapes - so that could be another place to check out for ideas!
