NWR - House Hunting After Dark

Sounds like a dorky reality show but its my life! We're going to look at 5 houses tonight after work. Brrrrr and Yay!

I'm so happy we're getting this started, hopefully we can find something we love and get $$$ from the bank by April.

Just make sure to go back and look at it in the light...and then go back and look at it again.

We found a house our first Saturday of hunting. Went back a little while later to look again. And then went back a third time before making our offer to try and find things we really hated about it!

We will definitely go back during the day to see anything worth seeing again!

Out of curiostiy, how many houses did you end up looking at before making the offer on yours?

This is what FI and I have been doing. I work during the day and he works during the day+weekends so we have been forced to look after 6pm during the week. Definitely make sure you go back during the day and check everything out. We litterally looked at every square inch of each house during the day after seeing them only at night.

It's a fun, but stressful process. I'm about done with house hunting, lol. Hopefully we get this condo we're waiting for and then I can concentrate on the wedding again.

    Have fun though!!

I really liked looking in the dark ( but we did it AFTER we looked in the light, - but FI had to take vacation days to do it) because it gave us an idea of lighting needs in and outside the house, and in the neighborhood. I work days and school at nights and FI works weird hours usually late at night and I wanted to be able to see how the neighborhood was at night.-- since I will mostly be home alone at night for the first few years anyway.  Also - people turn on lights in houses during showings during the day to make them look bigger. So I would always turn them off to get a better idea of what I was looking at. Looking at night will give the opportunity to place your furniture in your head as you go as well- you can see where you will want your side lamps etc. HAVE FUN AND GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

How fun. I'm jealous. We have some major issues to fix in our house before we can start looking. Good luck!

We looked at 12 houses in one day and that same day we saw our 3rd house twice. The next day we went back to it and then made the offer. So we only went looking once.

We had a VERY specific budget. (I was not willing to go over 110) We knew what were our deal breakers: backyard size, basement and 1.5 baths.  So we could narrow it down fairly well just looking online.

When we saw the house we bid on, we just knew that it was great, but weren't sure it was for us. By the time I was done looking at the rest of the 12 I really wanted to see it again because I had forgotten what it looked like. We looked again and I fell in love. I told my mom and Fi I wanted that house. I told my REA that day that I wanted to bid on it and we set up an appoint for the next day to do just that.

Yay, how fun! We jsut bought our house this past spring. It was actually the first house we saw, we fell in love instantly. We still looked around before we made an offer, and it was also a short sale so we knew we had time to continue looking while we waited. Nothing came close to this one, but it was nice to have options to compare. Our offer originally fell through with their bank, so we made 3 other offers on different houses that thankfully didn't pan out. Our first and original house contacted us to see if we were still interested. It was a VERY stressful and long wait, but so worth it! Definitely don't settle!
