Did you use a videographer?

Hi all,

We are having the great debate about the videographer. I don't feel like it is really necessary to have one (plus I've yet to find one that is a decent price), but my Mom insists that if I don't get one I'll regret it someday. Honestly I don't see myself or the groom breaking out the wedding dvd and watching it in the future. He already has kids, who will be part of the wedding, so it isn't like we'll have future children to show it to. So, my question to the board is, did you have a videographer? If so, who did you use and about how much did you have to invest?

TIA,
Brandie

I'd like to hear everyone's responses also. At first we did not want a videographer but now I'm thinking that I'd like to have one just to cover the highlights to show my family members, such as my grandparents, who can't attend. Did anyone get a videographer for under 1000, any recommendations?? I don't want anything fancy or spectacular!

We're not having one, we kind of figure if we have two photographers they are going to capture the very important moments. And I also don't see us popping in our video just to watch. Thats just my opionion though.

At first I didn't want a videographer either, but I changed my mind the more I thought about it.  Everyone tells me that your wedding day goes by so fast that you don't actually "see" everything happen because you are living it.  I am using Gerard Castillo who I found on this board from others knotties.  You can look at some of his work here.  I think I'm paying about $600.  I think if you can afford it, then go for it.  You will never regret having a video of the most important day of your life.  Every once in a while on a special anniversary, I think it would be nice to put in the dvd so that you can both relive that moment together.  If you can't afford a videographer, I think you should at least try to get a friend to maybe use a flip recorder to get a few highlights.

We didn't use a videographer but we did want video. We bought a flip camera and LOVE the video we got. We recorded parts of the rehearsal dinner, I had it with my while I was getting ready all day and have some great footage of all the family that stopped by before the ceremony, and H's BIL filmed the ceremony. During the reception, me, H, my dad, mom, friends, etc filmed big parts and funny things. H and I also made a funny little video just the two of us while in the car on the way to the hotel and in the elevator going to the room. I actually just transferred all the video to my computer this week and edited it to a 30-minute video. H and I watched it last night and loved it.

This was a more affordable and personal option for us. Granted, it is not professional quality but it's good enough for us. :)

I had also been debating this issue, but recently came across a good deal on craigslist.com.  New Road Productions is offering a very thorough wedding video package for $950.  I liked their video samples, and just ended up booking them.  I had also seen many other videographers advertising their services on craigslist for relatively affordable prices; might be worth looking into.

A coworker strongly urges me to at least video the ceremony.  She said she and the groom were so nervous and caught up in the emotion, that they don't remember a single thing.  She wishes she had a video so they could re-watch their vows.  I'm not sure I want a professional...I don't really want their added presence, when we've already got the two photographers.  I was honestly just thinking of asking a friend to video with a small camera from their seat, just so I can have some record of the ceremony.  I REALLY like what kelseyMW did up above with taking turns with the Flip camera.  I'll have to consider that.  It seems really fun and personal.

At first we were not going to have a videographer because it just wasn't in our budget.  Then we got an awesome deal off craigslist on an up and coming videographer at the time and now I am so thankful we did.  Our video is absolutely amazing.  They are dnavideography@yahoo.com
