Makena Beach

Is anyone local or recently visited makena big beach (makena surf area)? My Dad was talking to a freind who just returned from Kihei and he seemed to be upset and all worked up that the resort he stayed in was flooded and no one told him prior to arriving and that a lot of the beaches are all mud instead of sand from the Tsunami?

I wouldn't be as far as upset like this guy seems to be, it's not exactly in anybody's control - afterall it is a natural disaster!! I was just curious to know if I should be working on a plan B?

I don't have any information for you, but I will post on Trip Advisor and see if anyone has any info!  Their boards are great for random info, and there are always people there to help!

We did not go to big beach, but our venue was waterside just a mile down in Makena.  The site itself was flooded due to the tsunami, but 1 week later, it was flawless.  You definitely could not tell.

Most resorts in Kihei / Wailea were fine honestly.  Our guests stayed in both towns and no one had any complaints.

    Where did your friend stay?

We got to Maui 2 days after the Tsunami and all we were told is that many people were evacuated, but no damage.  I also called the harbor for our sunset dinner cruise plans and was told no damage in the harbor.  Our boat set sail as scheduled that Tuesday.

I am pretty sure we went snorkeling near Makena Beach and couldn't see any damage.  The visibility for snorkeling was excellent too!

I just got confirmation from someone on Trip Advisor who was there last week.  They said the beach looks perfect!  Nothing to worry about!

Tanq - he never actually said which resort it was (or my Dad didn't remember), he just mentioned it was right beside Hale Kamaole which is where most of the family is staying on our trip.
