Hope it works out for you!

Please be aware that most churches require at least 6 months notice before you get married there -- typically you'll need to have some type of pre-marriage counseling.

You realize that if you get married outside of the Catholic Church without proper dispensation, you will no longer be eligible to receive the sacraments, right? That also means you cannot participate as a godparent or confirmation sponsor.

I hope things work out for you, but I would really encourage you to consider 1) what you're thinking of doing in marrying outside of the Church, 2) what your and your FI's plans are for practicing religion in your marriage, 3) how you plan on raising your children, 4) whether you want to remain in good standing with the Church. If you don't want to be out of communion with the Church, I would recommend having another meeting with the priest to see what your options are, especially if you move forward with the Lutheran ceremony.

I know you said you didn't feel very comfortable with the priest you met with, but I wouldn't approach the decision about whether to have a  Luteran ceremony or a Catholic ceremony based on the specific officiant.

I think you need to determine first which religion suits you and then decide which ceremony to have. If you do not want to walk away from the Catholic Church, you should meet with other priests until you find one that you are comfortable with. Like bibli said, there are consequences to having the ceremony elsewhere (without proper dispensation) so definitely think carefully and prayerfully consider what religion you want to be following in the future, not just for your wedding day.

Best of luck and feel free to stick around here - there are many ladies here that are helpful and supportive!
