Vegan Rehearsal Dinner

We have the reception covered.  But we are having the rehearsal dinner in Kansas City, MO. and we need ideas for the rehearsal dinner.  One of the members of the wedding party is a vegan, I would just like some places that he is not going to have to only order a salad that he has to pick bacon off of, and every one else can get something good too.

    You might want to try posting this on your local board, since girls there are more likely to have recommendations.  I could list a number of vegan-friendly restaurants for you in Baltimore, but that wouldn't be much help. :)

    I will say, though, that many upscale restaurants easily accomodate vegans, even if vegan options don't appear on the menu.  However, some people are uncomfortable requesting meals off-menu.  If you're not opposed to chain restaurants, a lot of them have started to make more vegetarian- and vegan-friendly options; I know vegans who have found lots to eat at P.F. Chang's and Cheesecake Factory, for example, but I don't know if that fits your idea for a rehearsal dinner.

    If you look at www.happycow.com, they have a list of vegan and vegetarian restaurants (and veg-friendly) that you can search by location.  It's not a complete list of everywhere a vegan could eat (since you can often scrounge something together at most places), but it might be helpful to see a list of places he could actually have options.

    Ethnic restaurants (like Indian restaurants) may also be a very yummy option. Middle Eastern cuisine (falaffels, hummus, tabouleh) might be fun... bonus points if the restaurant offers belly dancers as entertainment. 

    Are there any cool "alternative" burger or burrito joints in the area? They usually offer black bean burgers or vegan burritos

    The above opinions are good. Additionally, if you have a venue in mind for the RD, speak with a person there about their vegan meal options and then ask your vegan friend which he would prefer.

    We had a set menu for our RD - they allowed us to pick 4 entree options, plus salad and dessert. My in-laws also added some appetizers off their set menu that they served family style. I'd talk to a few venues and ask about vegan options. Our RD venue provided a menu for us with the options we had pre-selected and pre-paid for. Just make the vegan option one of the options. I think your friend will appreciate having an option he doesn't have to special order.

    Italian places tend to have good vegan and vegetarian options (ask if their dry pasta has egg and / or if they can do a vegetable stock based risotto).  Having been to a number of weddings and a few rehearsal dinners, I think your vegan guest will be happy if they don't starve and get something that's reasonably tasty. Do try to get them something that's filling.

    I agree that most upscale European / American restaurants places should be able to do something good without much problem... at least that's the case here, though may be a bit less so in KC.
