Break in

So, at about 5:20 this morning, I got woken up by someone pounding my door down.  I go downstairs and look out my peephole to see a cop at my door.  First thought: "I paid all those tickets, what the he11???"  So I open up and he asks me if I have a gold car with a black and white D&D sticker on the back of it.  I say yes and he tells me that someone broke into my car.  I go out with him to see and sure enough, my driver's side door was cracked and the trunk was open.  The contents of the center console and the glovebox were all over my front seat.  Nothing was taken, it was just ransacked.  My daughter's Leapster had been on the front seat and the guy didn't touch it.  I may be missing a kick board out of the trunk, but we don't use them that much, so it's no biggie.  I will be anal about locking my car up at night from now on.  And I'm really glad I didn't leave my computer in there last night.  The guy apparently got into 4 cars last night.  Gotta love apartment complexes.  So convienent for criminals to have so many cars just waiting for them.

When my friend lived in an apartment his truck got stolen. Funny thing is, his roomate was away and heard the guy disarm the alarm and thought nothing of it.

I don't think I'd every feel completely safe if my car/house got broken into. My dad always leaves the car doors unlocked with my cd player faceplate in it. I guess he figures if they're going to steal anything out of the truck, they will get in whether it's locked or not and he'd rather just not replace the window too.

My BIL got his car broken into and all his CDs were stolen when he lived in an apartment.

One time I got a call from the sherriff's office saying to stay in my house because there is an escaped convict who was last seen three doors down and he's armed and dangerous.  I was only in high school and it scared the poop out of me.

I lived at an apartment about a year or so ago and there was an armed robbery. We moved out shortly after that happened.

My husband's truck gets broken into about once a year on average - hasn't happened yet this year so here's hoping we can break the pattern.

I'm just glad there was no damage to my car.  And I'm really glad that I'm moving out soon.  I'll be out in the country where I feel safer.

That sucks! I had my car broken into once. I had a bag of clothes stolen. (I don't think they were new) and my CD case that contained all my crappy CD's (so the fact that they stole all my crappy CD's just makes me laugh.) My other CD case was out in plain view but was not touched. I'm pretty sure for a number of different reasons I know who did it, and I think my bf at the time was in on it. Yeah he was a winner.

Oh, that totally sucks!  Glad you didn't lose anything really valuable!

I hate apartment living.  I saw so many cars get broken into on such a regular basis, I became completely obsessive about removing EVERYTHING from my car when I got home at night...

A friend of mine's car was stolen twice in rapid succession. She woke up to find it stolen and called the cops. Later the cops come to her door and tell her they found it abandoned in a field somewhere and take her to go get it. When they got there, it had been stolen again. About two weeks later they found it once again. And the only thing they stole out of it was a fitting mannequin that belonged to her sister.

It was fun times. Then about a year later when her LIB broke up with her while she was on vacation out of the country, ex-LIB took her car without permission and totalled the thing because he ran a red light.

    She has good luck.

I have had my car broken into before. It pretty much amounted to them breaking my window and leaving me pliers. And me getting a new car a week later.

A couple of friends of mine have better stories. One of them had his car stolen. The gas was pretty empty. They caught the guy because he was pushing the stolen car on the freeway. Moron.
Another friend of mine had his car stolen. When they located it a few months later, the guy who stole it fixed it up and put a really nice stereo in it. So he got back his car, just with more bells and whistles.

I'm glad nothing big got taken from your car, but it's never a good feeling.

FI had to teach me about locking cars and houses, we never locked either growing up!  Our neighborhood was tight-knit and mountain lions killed more people than people did.  We still live in a rural area but FI grew up moving from place to place and spent more time in big cities, and freaks out when I forget to lock up!
