Getting ready photos

I'm trying to decide if I want the photographer to take getting ready pics.  I know I don't need picture of me getting my hair and makeup...but not so sure about pics of my dress alone, putting on my dress and final details, etc.  So my question is...brides who did have getting ready pics...did you love them?  Are you so happy you got them?  or did you not use any of them in your album?

You dont need the whole getting ready period covered. Perhaps just the final hour. This part of the photography is more to capture the interactions and emotion between you and your mother and bridesmaids, than it is for pictures of you getting ready.

Getting ready pictures typically aren't of you actually getting ready. As far as putting the dress, jewelry, veil, etc on. They are staged, so you can do them at the venue and not have to pay your photgrapher for another location.

Jilly, I totally disagree. Getting ready and detail shots are my favorite.

I don't know any photographers that charge "by the location." I don't think good photographers stage things anymore...maybe back in my mom's day they staged the shot, but all my friends had REAL getting ready stuff nowadays.

I'd say over 50% of my BFF's album is before the ceremony stuff. :) But only two pages are reception.

I agree that "getting ready" shots are a great addition to your portfolio.  It's not just about the hair and makeup, it's about spending this time with your friends and family before you go out and marry your sweetheart.  There's a lot of emotion in this time--hugs and tears and whispers and smiles.  It would be a shame not to capture some of that.

This is not correct.  They are in fact pictures of the bride (and the groom) getting ready.

They weren't as important to me as others but I do like them.  And it's a great time to get candids with your BMs, your mom, etc. of that exciting time right before the wedding (unfortunately, I was really rushed getting ready so mine aren't as good as others that I have seen).  I have mine in my bio.

    Ditto this.

I really didn't want getting ready photos.  My hubby kind of insisted so we could get photos with my brother and parents.  I'm really happy I did because there are such great candids with my family, BMs, the FG, my cousin (FGs mom).
