Need gift help from a local!

We are going to the wedding of a college friend in 2 weeks, and since they live in LA we either have to ship a gift off their registry to their apartment, do cash or a gift card.

I was thinking about being creative and getting them gift cards for a "date night" out in LA after the wedding (they aren't taking their honeymoon right away). So I wanted to do dinner and a movie.

Is there any restaurant chains where if you buy the gift card you can use it at multiple different places? (Like here in Chicago we have Lettuce Entertain You, and they have like 30 different restaurants all over Chicago with different types of food, different names/themes, etc...).  That way they could choose what type of place they want to use it at rather than me guessing what ONE restaurant they would like?

Also what movie theaters are popular out there? AMC? (They technically live in Burbank-but I think that's considered LA-ish right?)

THANKS!

There aren't any restaurant GC that I know of like you described.  Maybe getting them a Visa card and explain that you would like to treat them to their first "married date night".

As for movie theaters, I prefer The Arclight.  The closest ones to them would either be Sherman Oaks or Pasadena (really, they're not far away).  The Arclight is a nice theater where you reserve your seats for the movie ahead of time so you can just show up 5 minutes before the start time.  AMC in Burbank is also a popular theater but I think The Arclight is nicer.

I agree about ArcLight for the movie theater. The one in Hollywood would be really close to them, as well, and there are many restaurants in Hollywood to choose from.

There are several chain restaurants in Sherman Oaks at the complex where the ArcLight is located, including PF Chang's, Cheesecake Factory and El Torito.

Gold Class Cinemas is in Downtown Pasadena and makes a great date night, its not too far from Burbank. They have large oversized seats that recline and its assigned seating. They serve food and alcohol.

Here is downtown Pasadena's website that has a list of nearby restaurants

Also Brinker Family Restaurants is similar to what you were referring to in Chicago. They own On The Border, Chili's, Macaroni Grill and Maggiano's which are pretty easy to find here in southern California. They sell gift cards at the local grocery stores here and online also where you can use the card for any of those restaurants.

a waitress takes your movie tickets & brings you a menu and offers drinks b4 your movie begins.

Once the movie is about to begin couple is ushered to there private seating area drinks are brought to there underlit table where they have lounge chairs for two.
And dinner is brought to them as well as there dessert throught the movie.

Thanks all for the tips! Gold Class was a little out of our budget...we wanted to be able to pay for a FULL date night for them haha.  Sounds neat though! I see there is one near Chicago

I decided to just go with gift cards I could get at the local stores around here. I got one that is available for use at 5 different restaurants (and I made sure they were in the LA/Burbank area!) as well as a gift card for Fandango so they could choose ANY theater they wanted.

THANKS for all the tips though!
