Music Opinions

I seem to remember someone on here who was great at analyzing song lyrics to make sure they weren't weird for a wedding...specifically she pointed out that Somewhere Over the Rainbow might not send the right message hahaha.

For the processional, FI and I would like to use the theme from "Beauty and the Beast" (you know, tale as old as time...). We already know the implication that he's the beast lol, but it is our mutual favorite fairy tale, and we think the pace of the song would be wonderful for this purpose. I have also acted in Beauty and the Beast 3 times, as Chip (when I was a kid), Belle, and Mrs. Potts, so I have quite an attachment to the song. Anyone see issues with this?

For the recessional, we want to do Star Wars: Throne Room. We were already planning on doing something Star Wars since our wedding Is May 4th (May the Fourth Be With You), and I saw another Knottie who used this partiuclar song and it seemed ideal!

<div>Did you guys have live music? We are having a hard time finding someone who will learn this song! I thought it was odd, but figured maybe others have some DJs instead?</div>

[QUOTE]That's me. The music is a beautiful piece.  If you're going to use it, use an instrumental, although the lyrics aren't terribly inappropriate.  It's about a mismatched couple. Tale as old as time True as it can be Barely even friends Then somebody bends Unexpectedly Just a little change Small, to say the least Both a little scared Neither one prepared Beauty and the Beast Ever just the same Ever a surprise Ever as before Ever just as sure As the sun will rise Tale as old as time Tune as old as song Bittersweet and strange Finding you can change Learning you were wrong Certain as the sun Rising in the east Tale as old as time Song as old as rhyme Beauty and the beast. I'm a "Star Wars" nerd (seen the original over a hundred times), so that music is gorgeous and fanfarish. My complaint about "Over the Rainbow" is that it's about being trapped in a dull life, desperate to escape.  That is NOT the sentiment for a marriage!  Dorothy sings it because she's sick of life on the farm, and feels as if she'll be stuck there, bored, forever.

<div>Retread, thanks for the advice! Somehow I feel much better about it with your unofficial stamp of approval! We will be doing the instrumental version with a trumpet and a violin.</div>

  • i love the beauty and the beast idea... yes, it is about a mismatched couple...but its also about compromise and change. two very important qualities of a marriage.

LOVE the star wars idea (and your wedding date!!).  we giggled about wanting to do this but figured the church wouldn't let us.
