Help! Calligraphy on Invites Envelopes are messed up!

So I am in crisis mode b/c we just got our envelopes back from my fiance's family friend who did the calligraphy.  On most of them the names and addresses are off to the right instead of centered on the envelope - should it be like that?  Secondly she wrote & Guest on all of them instead of and Guest like we wrote on the paper we gave her.  Is that wrong now because it says & Guest?!

Did most people do one envelope or two?

    This is not a crisis. People are not going to notice or care that the address is off center or that she used an ampersand instead of the word and. Take a deep breath, and don't make yourself crazy over something so minor.

    I thought it would be ok if we had an inner envelope but the stationaryplace said we didn't need to get an inner envelope so we didn't!  Now pur guests won't be throwing away the outer envelope bc they will ned it to hold our invitations.  I am just so upset :(  Should I order new enveoples and find a new calligrapher?  Stinks b/c I need to send these out in less than two weeks!

    No its not worth the stress. No one really notices what the outside of the envelope looks like. We had a family friend do ours and they came out nice but anyone who was added to the last after she did them was written by me in my chicken scratch writing!

    I don't really see what the big deal is. They may not have been exactly how you wanted them, but it doesn't sound like they look bad.

    Now, if you specifically told her that you wanted the text to be centered and the word "and" spelled out instead of using the ampersand, I would agree that you should call her and ask for replacement envelopes because you didn't get what you are paying for.

    But if you didn't make these specifications, I think it's be a giant waste of time and money to get new ones. Seriously, people do not care about the envelopes at all.

    This is not a crisis at all. People wont notice it, trust me. I did script for mine and the woman messed up in 2 or 3 envelopes and I just sent it that way.....
    Why waste more money when there is nothing wrong with your envelopes......

    Do NOT order new envelopes and find a new calligrapher!! That would be a huge waste of time and money. What is that saying..."Perfection is the enemy of the good"...or something like that. In other words, your envelopes do not need to be perfect. Can you read the addresses? Will they get where you need them to go? If yes, then just accept it and move on. YOU are the only person who will notice that anything is even slightly off about your invitations, your guests are not going to notice or care, they will be so excited to open it up and see your pretty invites that they are not going to care one iota about how the outside of the envelope looks. I just got an invitation to a wedding with the addresses printed on a computer, my last name misspelled, and the address was wrong so the post office scratched it out with black pen and wrote the correct house number. I didn't care. The envelope ended up in the garbage (and they didn't have an inner envelope either).

    I kind of like ampersands instead of "and" in calligraphy.  Calligraphy ampersands are pretty.

    As far as off to the right versus centered -- it is just a different style.  It isn't wrong.  I remember from when I was looking at calligraphers that some charged more for centering because it is harder to do correctly.  She probably was off to the right because that way she could start at the same place on every envelope and not worry about all of the info that is supposed to fit on one line fitting on one line.

    Did you pay her? Just wondering since she's a family friend. Also, I think it's normal for the address to be to the right with calligraphy but I could be wrong

    I agree I would calm down no one will notice. I couldn't even tell you what the front of my friends previous wedding invitations envelopes looked like. We just got our envelopes back this weekend. My mom does calligraphy and addressed all of them. Our inner envelope has the & symbol.

    You will have more important things to worry about and so will your guests....I was told that a grooms mother wrote out all the envelopes for this invites, and to be honest I don't even remember noticing they were hand written.

    Like everyone said, only you notice, just like most things that go "wrong" at a wedding.

    We gave her a list written exactly how we wanted it and we wrote and instead of & so that's why I'm confused why she did it like that.  We are not paying her so it's extremly nice of her to do it - we are getting her a gift to thank her.  I'm just so upset because it I just think it looks so off since they are all so to the right instead of more centered.  I am upset we didn't get the inner envelope because then maybe that would give me a peace of mind because then I would know they are throwing away the outer envelope.  I think I am just getting frustrated and getting to that breaking down moment in the planning process...

    This is something that is going to end up in the garbage.  Seriously.  I'm sorry you are upset, but honestly it's not a big deal, they will be thrown away.

    it's really not a big deal at all.  yes, it's a little disappointing, but these things happen and it's not going to ruin your wedding.  it's an envelope that will be thrown away eventually.  try not to stress about these little things.

    I'm confused now, I keep neither envelope, there is no point in keeping it (at least thats me and all invites that i have ever seen at a friends/family's house) you think they are keeping the envelope and laughing at you that it has an ampersand and is off to the right?

    Wedding planning can cause us all to be crazy about little things (we all want perfect) but this is nothing, smile that you had it written, mine were typed!

    I wouldn't worry.  It's nice that you even had calligraphy done to begin with.

    By the time my invitations were finally ready to go out, I was just like "whatever" about the situation even when I saw an error or two. There's more important things coming up to worry about.

    Why would they throw out the envelope if I only have an outer one?  They are going to need to keep it to keep the invitation with the reception card, direction card, etc in it....

    Or, they could just keep all the cards and inserts in one place together. Or they could put them on the fridge.

    Even if they DO keep them in the envelope, though, they're really not going to give a shiit what the envelopes look like. I very much doubt anyone would look at your invites and say, "Ew, right-aligned addresses?" or "How tacky, they used ampersands."

    You REALLY need to let this go. But it seems like you have your heart set on buying new ones, so if you want to do it then go right ahead, but I really think you'd be wasting your money.

    how are you going to explain it to your family friend when she receives an envelope with someone else's calligraphy on it? think about how much time she put in for you two, and you are really putting her down for it? be GRATEFUL!

    My envelopes were printed from the computer. To be blunt- No one gives a sh!t what the envelopes look like. The only thing they *might* keep in the long run is the invitation, but most of those get thrown away too. Seriously, just let it go and be happy you have calligraphy, and that it was free! FWIW- I like & better than writing out and, especially in calligraphy.

    No one is going to agree that you need to waste your money on new envelopes. If you are going to do it, do it. But, it's a complete waste, and at least I think it would be very hurtful to your family friend.

    oh who gives a crap?! "and", "&", you're really upset over that?!

    This is why brides get bad reps for stressing out.  Don't worry about the small stuff!

    Literally NO ONE is going to notice that it says "& Guest." In fact, until you just said that, I didn't even realize it was the "wrong" way to do it.  I wouldn't doubt if my envelopes had that. I don't even remember.

    I usually chuck the envelope and pin invites to my bulletin board.

    Also, you get what you pay for! It was free, so you can't expect perfection.  If the invite envelopes were so important to you then you should have paid a professional.

    I would assume that you did it this way on purpose.  Lately, I am seeing lots of envelopes where the addresses are written in unique places or with different fonts just to switch it up.  And I also like the & sign.  I know you had  certain vision of how they would look and you didn't get it right, but trust me and everyone else on this board when we say that it is NO BIG DEAL.  If this is the ONE thing that goes wrong, consider yourself VERY lucky!
