OLD music

For those of you who played really old music (like 1930s and older), did people dance to those songs? If people tend not to dance to those songs, I want to make sure that they are properly placed during the evening (like during cake cutting). TIA

Re: OLD music

  • I think that a lot of it was meant to be danced to, because there were so many clubs with live music. It's just a totally different kind of dancing than we're used to. :)

  • I gave my DJ a timeline list of songs from 1920-1960. I insisted he played all of them during dinner and I asked him to play the music a little louder than normal. I notice a lot of dinner music tends to be background noise and I didn't want that. They were all upbeat songs that you would have danced to if you knew the dances in those time periods. I knew my guests wouldn't feel too comfortable dancing to those songs but I wanted them to be played. OUR GUESTS LOVED IT!!! Everyone kept gushing over the dinner music. My DJ thought it was amazing and kept a copy of my list to use for other weddings.

Dinner was the perfect spot for those types of songs. And it was very unexpected.

  • Thanks all! I hadn't thought of playing the music during dinner, but that might be a great option.

  • I've been listening to a lot of Benny Goodman lately, and every time I hear his "Sing, Sing, Sing (With a Swing)" I wonder if anybody in the world can just sit still while it's playing.  I CAN'T!  (Even though I don't know how to dance, that one makes me get to my feet and start moving!)  If you play it, please let us know how the crowd reacts!
