Where were your trials?

I booked with a makeup artist, and had a trial at her salon. She then contacts her network of hairstylists, sees who is available and gets them in contact with me.

So a hairstylist emailed me. She charges a travel fee for trials, but doesn't have a salon, so the trial would have to be at my house. I feel a little awkward having it here- my house is a mess, there's not much good lighting or mirrors like a salon. I'm not sure what she intends to do- set up a chair in my tiny tiny bathroom? Or use my living room and put the straightener/curling iron on the floor? 

I think it's strange that she charges a travel fee, but then doesn't have the option of not traveling- I'm basically forced to pay it?? (She didn't mention if there is a travel fee for the actual wedding day or not). 

I can't find any information about her through google (no example pictures, no website, nothing), and it's making me nervous. But she's also the cheapest of all the options I looked into, and I really don't want to spend a lot on hair/makeup.



I guess I just feel all this together is really strange (trial at my house, travel fee with no option to avoid travel, no information online). Is this actually normal, and I'm just crazy? Or does this sound strange to you ladies too?

    No, it sounds odd to me. My adive - still have your trial, if you aren't happy with your trial I would definitely look around for someone else asap since you're a June 2012 bride!

    I would personally cancel the trial unless there's a really good reason you want that specific hairstylist.  I'd look into more local options who might have a salon for the trial and who could travel to you for the wedding.

    I had my trial at the salon - Naomi's. However, my friend had her hair stylist come to her house. Maybe some of them do?

    I would think that if she is planning on traveling to your house on the day of your wedding, that it would be a good idea for her to do the trial there as well.  That way she can tell you whether your space will work for her.  Plus, it's probably a bonus that she doesn't work out of a salon - she doesn't need to rent space or pay overhead, therefore, her prices are probably more reasonable!

    </div><div>Plus she's only about $10 cheaper than the other places (though when I spoke with the makeup artist it was a straight fee, but she said fee "and up" so who know!). </div><div>
