Thank you note wording question

I need some advice on how to write some of our thank you notes.  Our destination wedding is two months away and people have already starting shipping us wedding gifts via Macy's.com.  The problem we are running into is that most of the items are back ordered and will not ship until February or March.  What is the proper etiquette on sending invites.  I am not sure if the people who sent the gifts are aware that they are back ordered so I think it would be rude to wait until the gift is delivered to thank them.  But I am also stumped on how to word the thank you note since we technically haven't received the gift yet.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am not too sure of the correct thing to do on this, but if it were me I would probably say something along the lines of: we are looking forward to receiving your gift soon! yadiyadiyah.

[QUOTE]For items that were backordered, I wrote two TY notes, one when I got the back order notice, another when I received the item. The first note I said something like, "Thank you for the china soup bowl.  Macy's sent me a note that it is on backorder, but I can't wait to receive it.  I just love the pattern and it will be perfect for special occasions.  FI and I really appreciate your generosity and can't wait to see you at the wedding." For the second note I said something like, "It was so wonderful to celebrate with you at the wedding.  I just wanted to let you know that I received the china soup bowl off a back order.  It's even more lovely in person and H and I can't wait to use it!  Thank you again for your generosity."

[QUOTE]I send the note after I receive it.  There was one time that I got a back-order email from Macys.  The sender must have been notified too, because she then cancelled the order and sent another gift instead.

For this reason I usually held off sending the first TY note for a few extra days after I got the back order notice.
