DC

Visiting DC

Hi all!  I'm a fellow nottie from Chicago and my hubby and I are going to be coming to the DC area for our 1-yr anniversary late June.  I was hoping I could get some insight from you.  We are not planning on renting a car and are planning on doing mostly "touristy" stuff, as my hubby has never been to DC!

Any advice on what hotels to look at?  My budget is $200 a night for a hotel.  I don't need anything swanky, just a place to sleep in a safe neighborhood.  Is this doable, or do I need to up my budget?

Also would love ideas on great (non-touristy) local resturants.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Key Bride Marriott- in Roslyn right by metro and short walk over bridge to Georgetown.   There are tons of hotels here and most have shuttles to metro if not walking distance.  I think within 2 mile radius (Roslyn, Courthouse- Arlington) there are 3-4 Marriott Hotels, 2 Hiltons, 2 Residence Inns and a Hotel Palomar among others.  Have fun!

The Churchill is a great hotel in a great location that usually has very reasonable rates (like $99 if you have AAA).

If you are doing touristy stuff try and stay inside d.c there are great hotels and if you plan far enough out definately get reservations at Old Ebbitt for sunday brunch (or tabard inn in dupont) and try to go to Full Kee in chinatown if you like chinese food. (its kinds worn down but great food) hotels, try sofitel, and any of the marriotts above..

When my family/friends come to visit me they usually stay in either Washington Plaza Hotel or the Marriott at Metro Center or the Residence Inn (Vermont Ave) or the Courtyard Marriott (Embassy Row).  All are in DC, in that price range and you can walk to all the tourist stuff.  I live in the district and give you some restaurants for all meals to try depending on where you stay.  If you want more details you can email me at psmith1216 at gmail dot com.   Have fun!

Check out the Shoreham Omni Hotel.  It is very clost to the National Zoo and they frequently have $99/night deals.  They are very nice also.
