Hair: Differences in Opinion....

Ok, so I sent my FI photos of the hairstyles I'm going to try during my hair trial. He's expressed to me before that he likes it when I have my hair down and pics half-updo styles for me all the time. However, for the wedding I'm leaning towards more of an updo style with little tendrils. Why? My dress has some beading and I don't want to take away from it or get my hairs snagged in the beads. Also, I like my collarbones. I just think the dress would look better with an updo. Anyhow, what would you do (or have done). Should I just go with the half updo since, really, the only person who's opinion really matters to me on my wedding day is his. Or do I go what with an updo, since afterall, what do guys know about hair anyways. Plus he doesn't know what my dress looks like..... The pics are of my dress, the hair I like and the hair he likes. TIA!

  • your dress is absolutely gorgeous!  it's funny, I'm in the same boat as you, except I want my hair up because it frizzes so much.  I am partial to updos for strapless or off the shoulder dresses.  I think it shows the shoulders and upper chest nicely.  I think you would be stunning in that dres and an updo!

  • I plan for an updo with tendrils. Works well with my hair, and I think I photograph better with my hair up.

FI told me two weeks ago he loves my hair down. I had a momentary panic, then went back to my original plan.

Sunday he told me he loved my hair, I was beautiful (I had on no make-up, hair slicked back in a ponytail).

I vote for whatever you are comfortable with and feel dresses up for your day! I think the same thing re: collarbones (tho I have none). And - men don't know! LOL I think he will be amazed and think you are beautiful regardless.

  • I did a half up do for my hair trial. It looked great but the curls didn't stay curly for 12 hours, which is pretty much what you need on your wedding day. I'm getting an up-do instead.

When you are standing in front of your FI in your dress with your hair and makeup done on your wedding day, your hair could be blue for all your FI will notice.  His breath will be taken away, trust me.

All this being said, I went ahead and went with a half up since I knew my DH would prefer it.  FWIW, I think both of those styles are lovely.  I would do a hair trial with both of them and see what feels the most right.  I had orignally planned to do a side pony (like in my siggy pic) but once I did my trial, the half up felt best.
  • actually, you might want to add the weight of another important issue as well: your face shape.

The first thing I did when I researched hair styles was to figure out which would flatter my face the most.  I mean, it's going to be plastered all over pictures the whole night, I might as well compliment it :P.  With my jawline, I needed to soften my face with half-down hair.

Might be something to tip the scales for you.

  • Take a picture of your dress with your to your hair stylist and tell them your concerns. Ask them for their advice on what they think would look best & based on when & where you are getting married & your hair, what style will hold the best through the whole day. I think either way you will look fabulous, but you have to be happy with how you look. Like other people said, he's just going to see you & love you no matter how you wear your hair.
