Am I behind in planning?

Hi everyone,

As I'm reading everyone's postings, I can't help but feel as though I'm behind in planning. I'm getting married on May 18, 2013 and all I've done is book my venue (ceremony and reception in one place) and hired a photographer. I've been researching ideas for favors, centerpieces, decorations, etc but haven't really committed to anything just yet. I'm having an engagement party in mid-July so I figured I'd re-start the planning process then. Does this sound right or should I already have done mroe than I have??

Everyone plans at their own pace. Some people on this board seem to have a ton of checks while others are just getting started. It's great that you have the date, venue, and photographer picked out. TBH I'm not that far ahead of you. I've spent the last few months looking for planning ideas online, but haven't had any big checks lately. As long as you have a timeline as to when you plan to get checks, you should be fine.

It really depends on what type of person/planner you are. I am someone that likes everything to be done and with my job traveling a lot I need to make sure everything is done, so many of the things I have done is because of that. I know many brides who wait to the last minute and are comfortable with it, again not me. It's good your getting ideas. Maybe the e-party you'll get ideas from family and friends too

I don't think you're behind at all. You've got the big checks done and can always get other things done over the summer :-)

As someone said every one goes at there own pace. I feel like I don't have much done either but when I look at everything on paper it looks better!

As others said you don't seem to be far behind at all. I fall into a type A personality and wanted to get started right away but to each their own. Also I think it depends on where you live as some areas wedding related vendors book faster than others. Overall though I don't see another month really making much of a difference on when you should start planning. GL!

I'm getting married on the same day as you!!

I am in the same position too. We have our ceremony and reception location, as well as our photographer. I was just wondering myself if I needed to step it up. I research stuff every day (lol) but haven't committed to much else either. I just went and looked at some flowers tonight, but didn't see anything that sparked my interest. I feel like I should already be looking for bridesmaids dresses too...

Nah, you're not behind. Some of us are just super type A and are ahead of the "typical" planning curve.
I know that I have a lot of excess time right now, so I'm getting as much done as I can, b/c now that summer is here, my time is less and less w/ 2 kids home. Plus we are trying to pay for what we can now, b/c in a few months FI will be out of the military and we don't know what that will hold for us financially.
It just depends on the person. Enjoy it!

I don't think your behind either. I will say that it does depend on your location because some florists, DJs, etc... can book very early in advance depending on where you are getting married. Follow the awesome checklist too that planner provides, it will give you an idea of what kinds of things you should be thinking about and around the time you should be thinking of them. I hope this helps! Don't stress! In the end, it'll all get done

I'm also a May 18th bride, and pretty much at the same spot you are

When I first started coming onto the boards, I remember my first post was "Am I behind?!?!". It seems like a lot of the brides are very on top of things! I'm comfortable with where I'm at, and I realize that is all that matters

So as everyone said, we all go at our own pace - try not to worry!

I'm May 19th and ONLY have the date & venue (for ceremony and reception). So you're ahead of me :P Everyone goes at their own pace and as long as you still are able to get the vendors and choices you want you're fine. I know I really need to get on the photography & catering stuff though!
