Venue ideas

We are planning out wedding in KC sometime this summer. We are looking for a nice, but inexpensive place to hold the ceremony and reception. We are currently living in Minnesota so planning for a KC wedding is a little hard when we can't see the venues right away. Any suggestions or places to stay away from? Thanks!

What is the your ballpark venue budget?  Are you looking for in-house catering or do you want to bring food in?  Do you want indoor/outdoor options?  Just trying to get a feel of what you're looking for!

Hello - our total budget is about $10k. Ideally - we would like indoor so no weather issues - and since we don't live down there, we are hoping to have a place that is pretty much all-inclusive with food, decorating, etc. My brother-in-law is a caterer, but we would need a place that had a kitchen as we do not live down there. We are just starting to look - and our goal is to have a low-key, easy, fun wedding!

    I would check out:
    Adam's Pointe Golf Course
    River Market Event Space
    Hillcrest Country Club
    Deer Creek Golf Club
    The Simpson House

I'm not positive on the pricing of all of these, you usually have to call to get true estimates.  Good luck!  Let us know how your plans come along!

    Also check out:
    • Californos (pricing includes space, food, and open bar for a minimum of 150 people, ceremony time is an extra charge)
    • Vox Theater (huge old theater with kitchen, not quite sure on price)
    • Drexel Hall (very spacious, small kitchen, affordable)
    • Hobbs Building/Feasts of Fancy (catering and space)
    • Cadillac Catering (catering and space, not sure on ceremony)
    • 1617 Event Space (above Nara) (catering and space, not sure on ceremony)

Honestly, the most affordable (and beautiful) place I have seen between planning my wedding and helping my friend plan hers has been The Stanley Event Space in Lee's Summit.  If you don't mind being 20 minutes out from KC (nice hotels still very close), I would look into it and quick because I am sure the price will start creeping up!

  • Not sure about the price, but I think they are pretty reasonable and they offer indoor and outdoor options: Fresh Air Farm. My friend got married there...so beautiful!
