Pros and Cons of Bands vs. DJs

I'm trying to decide between a DJ and a band. DJs are more affordable, but people keep saying bands keep people dancing. Any words to the wise?

  • You may want to check out this post from a few days ago: http://m.theknot.com/forums/localweddingboards_newjersey_bandanddjrecommendationsnorthernnj I prefer a band because I think live music has an energy that a dj cannot provide. It really is a personal preference though. A lot of people prefer to hear the music as it is on the radio.

  • We had a DJ, and our dance floor was packed all night. It really depends on what you want and what you can afford.

Same here. A good DJ can create that energy. We loved ours and people danced from the moment the reception doors opened til midnight.

  • I know this is my first post in here...in the months leading up to my wedding, I did a lot of lurking! I got married at the Primavera Regency on July 28th! Based on our wedding, I just have to recommend my DJ, Chris D'Amico of D'Amico entertainment. He was absolutely amazing, our dance floor was packed the entire night, we even had people dancing on the carpet at one point! Chris has a unique package that includes DJ services, male and female vocalists and a sax player. It truly is the best of both worlds, as there are songs that are the original artist and ones that Chris and/or the female vocalist sing. Both did an amazing job, at several points in the night it was hard to tell if it was them singing or the original artist. One of my bridesmaids who is getting married next year after having debated with her FI over band vs. DJ was blown away and booked him that night! He is definitely worth checking out!
  • Sometimes Bands are a little off key and don't cover specific songs well. A great Dj will have your dancefloor packed all night long. I can recomend Mike from RunAwayWithUs, they are by far the best in the area!

This. I personally don't like wedding bands because I'd rather dance to the original songs, not renditions of them.  Sometimes bands don't have the variety of a DJ.

  • Djs are easier to deal with, cost less, and able to play more songs. And I agree with PP RunAwayWithUs does have expectional Djs!

    THis!!!!!
I second D'Amico!!! I had Chris and the company do my wedding in February and it was amazing. Our dance floor never had had less than 100 people on it at any time. They are truely the best of both world. Chris was so much fun to work with and such a professional. There were so many people dancing all night you could never see the other side of the dance floor. I had all different age groups, 3 months old to 89 years old and they played such a wide range of music everyone was pleased and entertained the entire night. My husbands cousin also booked them for their wedding which was last weekend.
They were the highlight of the wedding and I still have people talking about the music and professionalism. Can not recommend Chris enough!!!!!!
  • Just curious, how much does Chris and D'Amico entertainment run?  For the DJ Alive package....
  • We used Best of Both Worlds they are based out of Ewing but we got married at THe Primavera Regency in Stirling and they traveled up there no extra charge.  They are vocalists that work with DJs.  There were no breaks like usual bands do because the DJ took over.  They were fantastic and half the time I didn't realize it wasn't the original song.

I personally tend to enjoy DJs more then Bands due to the last of breaks that they take and they can blend and change the vibe depending on the crowd easier.
