First of all, where is your reception and what is your theme?

One thing I learned is that many places who have the ability to provide their own catering actually charge you extra if you opt to bring in your own.  "Kitchen fee" "cleaning fee" you name it.  So, if you have already chosen or booked your location, you should check that out first... it may be cheaper to just go with their catering, plus less stress.

There are many restaurants and hotels around Syracuse that host weddings for a pretty reasonable price (in my opinion)... and offer a package deal type scenario where your room rental fee, food and alcohol is all included.  (To be honest, the largest expense is often the liquor... if you can get that in check, you are golden!)

When choosing your catering, the cheapest (and easiest) way to go is buffet style.  If you are really looking to save $$ consider having your wedding on a week day or Sunday (much MUCH less for not only the food, but also photographer, limo, everything... seriously).  I read up on a bride who had her wedding in the am and had a  brunch style reception.  Not only was the food and everything else less expensive, but they barely had to worry about booze... who wants to drink at like 11am anyway?

If you have the wedding at an odd time, you could get away with just hors d'eurves (spell... OMG?!?! lol) or finger foods... also way less expensive.

There are hundreds of ways to cut costs with food... you just have to figure out what you are willing to compromise on.

If you give me a better idea of what you are going for theme/food wise, I can definitely throw some more specific suggestions out there.

    Good luck!

We're having our reception at Camp Brockway at Pratts Falls park in Manlius, and they have no caterer. And as far as a theme, We don't really have one, maybe rustic chic to match the location? Still working all of that out, but it still leaves me clueless as far as food, a buffet style would totally suit us and our budget. Thanks for your input.

    No problem.
Depending on what kind of food you are looking into, I would consider Dominicks... I know their prices are pretty reasonable, and their catering is great!  My friend had them do her wedding and she was very happy with the results.  It is definitely serious Italian food (not so much rustic chic) but very delicious.  She also had a cannoli tree instead of a cake which I thought was pretty unique (although both she and her hubby are very VERY Italian).
I will think of a few more by the end of the week for sure, but there's a start if nothing else.

I know Dinosaur does some awesome (and really fun) catering as well, but that may be a little too backyard-ish to suit your theme.

Hmm... I will think a little more and ask the future Mr if he has any ideas for you.  We have gotten hundreds of brochures and emails and such, but have already ditched most of it since our food was settled on day 1 (the winery we are holding our reception at does their own catering... thank goodness!!!)

My cousin got married at Camp Brockway this past summer and they had Limp Lizard Cater. They did an awesome job and the food was delicious.

Another option would be Diamond Catering. I've never experienced them but have heard they do a really great job.

Carnagie Catering is supposed to be really good too.

When it comes to ridiculously cheap prices and a great selection of really good food, check out Reilly's Cafe in Marathon, NY.  I don't know if they'll go all the way up to Pratts Falls, but we're using them for our reception.  Give them a call and see what they say!
