Offer!

I am super excited, but still trying to hold back a little until everything is completely finalized.

Last week I interviewed for two positions at two different companies.  The first opportunity I really really liked.  The second one I interviewed just didn't feel right.  I didn't like some of the things the director I met with said.  I decided to not move forward with the second opportunity.

On Friday evening I received a verbal offer from the company that I really liked!  I was really happy with the offer, but since it was literally 5:30pm on a Friday I told them I would think about it and get back to them on Monday.

This morning I vebally accepted.  They are sending the official offer in the mail today.  I will just have to take a drug test and they will run a background check.

I am so excited about this new opportunity.  It is more in line with what I want to do, the compensation is a lot better and I will get to work from home.  I am really nervous about giving notice at my current job.  I will need to do that once everything is completely official.

Sorry for the long post.  I just had to share.

  • That's awesome, congratulations!  Can I ask what you do, or will be doing?

FI changed jobs in December and went through similar anxiety with giving his notice at his current job.  We went through a few days of, "Am I doing the right thing?  What if it doesn't work out?  What if I don't like it?" and I had to keep reminding him that not only did he hate the place he was working for, but there was no guarantee they were going to keep him on for another 6 months.

He LOVES his new job now, and couldn't be happier. I hope the same goes for you, too!  Good luck!

I will be doing sales in the biotech pahrma industry.  I currently sell basically consumable biologic products for research.  This job is more selling a service (contract research/manufacturing type of thing).  I really prefer being on the serivce side, which I did previously.

I am not nervous that I am making the right decision.  I am just dreading my bosses reaction.  He can be super emotional and get upset with things like this.  I am hoping they let me work my two weeks and don't ask me to leave that day.  As much as I would like two weeks off, I really can't afford it with the wedding coming up.

Also, the new job already approved my 2 days off for bachelorette weekend in March and 7 days for honeymoon!  One less thing to worry about!!

  • Can they actually do that?  It sounds like asking you to leave immediately is technically termination, so wouldn't they have to give you some kind of package/compensation?  Usually the requirement is one or two weeks' notice; I can't imagine that they would actually have much to benefit from kicking you out earlier than you had planned.

I looked into this.  One of my friends (from NH) was telling me that they would still have to pay me for the two weeks.  I am not sure if it is that way in NH.  I found out in Mass that they definitely can do it.  Since it is an "at will" employment state you can technically quit at anytime and they can ask you to leave at anytime.

It is "prefered" that you give notice, but not requried.  It actually says right in our handbook that they do not have to take you up on your nothice basically.

Either way things will work out!  It is just two weeks in the scheme of things.

you are always an employee at will unless you sign a contract with the company. I am 95% sure that in Mass they cannot ask you to leave (without giving you compensation) if you give your two weeks notice. If that was the case no one would give their two weeks! lol at least I wouldn't =)

anyways, congrats on the new job!

  • Congrats!  That sounds really exciting.

IF they do ask you to leave ... that's on their terms and not yours, so at the very least, you can technically file unemployment for those two weeks.
  • Congrats! That's exciting news!!
