October 2012 Weddings

probably a silly question

Do I need to include the photographers/DJ in the seating arrangements or will they do their own thing?

Usually they fend for themselves. The DJ will most likely eat at their station and a lot of photographers won't eat even if offered because they're working. Some will eat before they leave if anything is left..but a lot of them come prepared not to have time. AND if you're really concerned..ask your vendors what they normally do at events..what they expect.

  • Check your contract for any stipulations and then ask them what they usually do or what they prefer.  The DJs usually eat at their station, but I think photographers usually get a seat at a table, preferably one where they can quickly stand up and grab any photos that might come up.

Krystle, I'm sorry, but you're wrong about the photographers.  They do usually eat because it's at least a 6 hour day for them and at a meal time.  There are usually not a lot of photos going on during dinner, but I'm sure they're on the lookout.
  • I think you're both right, Krystle and Erica. I work with a photographer who does a lot of weddings and he says he rarely finds that he sits down and eats, and keeps a plate in the back with the caterers and goes and shovels in a few mouthfuls when he can. But I think that you are always supposed to include a vendor meal for anyone who will be there the full day, including photographers.

  • I would check with your vendors but also your venue.  Our venue sets up a table for the vendors in a room off the main room.  They eat when everyone else does just not in the same room.  Also the venue makes 5 extra of each meal and the vendors will get to chose from which meal is left for their meal and it is also a considerable amount cheaper because they will not being drinking from the bar.

  • I haven't figured it out for sure yet, but since we have a separate room for cocktails w/ tables and chairs already, I think we will set them up in there.  We have a 6 person band and 2 photogs to feed.

</div><div>Yup...pretty much the same here.  I think vendor meals are $35 a plate vs the $106 per plate for our guests.

  • I read over my contract, it does not say anything about providing a meal. Of course, we will anyways. But I would like to provide the opprotunity for the photographers to sit, rest, and eat if they want it. I went ahead and emailed them to ask what they felt comfortable with.

In my mind, I was counting up place settings.....haha

  • we are feeding both our vendors but not sure if the DJ will get a table.  I don't need pix of people eating so the photog will get a seat at a table near me.  The DJ will be playing music throughout dinner but I will still give him a plate of food.
  • My photographer will only be there for the first hour of the reception..so she is welcome to eat after she is done. While people are eating she will be taking photos of the cake cutting etc because we are doing all of that as soon as we come in. We'll go right into first dance cake cutting..grab a bite ourselves hopefully then the other special dances bouquet and garter toss then we'll open the floor...every event runs on a different schedule and I've never seen a photographer eat. I work with a wedding photographers assistant who said they are not allowed to eat by the boss because there is too much to be done. So it really does depend on the event itself..if you have a multi course sit down dinner sure there will prob be lots of downtime...but what were doing by the time we even make it to the venue most people will have started eating and some will be done and ready for cake! Were not having a cocktail hour so it jumps right into play when the guests arrive.
