mothers wedding sash sewn onto daugthers dress - Who do I trust to do this?

I am getting married on September 22nd and I always wanted a sash but was not thrilled at the ones at davids. I found the perfect one off my mothers wedding dress. It's satin and it's an off white/creme color. I decided to pin a brooch in the middle (the brooch is over 100 years old) It's beautiful.

Who do I trust to sew the sash onto my dress. I can't tie it cause I have a corset back and it will take away from that. Davids Bridal will not do it, considering it's not one of their products. (one of my bridesmaid works at davids, i like them so don't tell me they are bad)

Does anyone in the Cincinnati/Dayton area recommended anyone that does alterations/sewing for me to go to and that I can trust? II don't want my dress or the sash to be destroyed. I'm sure some brides understand :)

  • Try posting this on your local Cincinatti Board (under Local Wedding Boards to the left).

  • Ditto pp, get a good recommendation from your local board or word of mouth from friends/co-workers who might have recently gotten married and had alterations done by an independent seamstress.  It's a lovely idea and nothing too complicated so I'm sure whoever you find will do a great job.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • I agree with seeing if someone on your local board can make a recommendation.

I'd also ask your family members, maybe an aunt, grandmother or someone else has some sewing skills? They will understand your situation and wanting to take care.
