Any affordable photographers for engagement sessions?

My FI and I are from Canada and are escaping to New York as a gift from his parents for our engagement. I'm from Alberta, our winters are 10 months long and the other two months of "summer" are brown dead and ugly. We were hoping to have our engagement pics done in new york while we are there in September... anyone know of someone good that will do an hour session for 200$ or less?

my photographer (from Rochester, but will travel locally) charges 200 for an epic session I believe.. it's either that or 250 I think. Her website is www.photokisses.com if you want to contact her and check out her work!

"New York" covers a lot of ground.... maybe a little more specific, mmm??

Also, we really like intros on this board.... ya know, name, something. Welcome to the board! I hope we can help you out, but if you don't give us any specifics, it's really difficult to give any meaningful suggestions.

FWIW- My photog is form Buffalo and was very reasonable. I don't know what she charges for e-pics b/c ours was free with our wedding package, but if by "New York" you mean anywhere near Buffalo, she would be worth a look. www.tessmoran.com

My photog is from Ithaca and I believe he charges $150 for engagement photos, although ours was included in our wedding package. Jeffrey Foote Photography.

I agree with Monica, you need to be a little more specific as to where youre going. If youre gunna be in New York City (Which Im kind of assuming as Alberta is on the opposite side of the US and well, most people outside of NY think that "Im going to NY" means NYC and that pisses the rest of the state off) then you need to check out the NYC boards. If youre going to Buffalo, The Western NY board would probably be of more help, and if you'll be in the adirondack/upper portion on NY, then you'll want the Upstate NY board.

I don't know how much our photographer charges just for an engagement session because our pictures are included in our package. They do beautiful work though! We are having Manfredo Photography for our wedding.

My apologies, I'm so new to the internet world still lol. My name is Nicole and my fiance is Josh. I'm 22 and he is 23, I'm a student teacher and he is a registered nurse here in Fort McMurray Alberta.... possible the boring-est place to be in all of Canada, its literally a 5 hour drive to any other civilization... hence the much needed trip to New York City! I appreciate all your feedback and help!

Ah...well, welcome! The more the merrier here on the CNY board, however, there is also a NYC board that may be more helpful for a photographer in that area. We do have some great photographers here though if you'd like to take a detour!

P.S.- I see you have great taste, as we have the same wedding colors and my dress is a Pronovias!

Notsomuch offended.... just your typical annoyed, thanksforwastingourtimeandaskingforoursuggestions, eyeroll, silly outsiders kind of response from most of us. Hate to sound mean, but as a student teacher.... isn't that something that is sort of normal to know? I dunno.... I mean... I had to take geography in high school and I get that Paris =/= France and Montreal =/= Canada.... and I'm a dumb American raised in one of the worst school districts in the country (thank you Florida!! #49 out of 50. pffff)... long before I moved to New York (state), I knew that it was a state. I dunno....

Sorry about the snark.... it just surprises me that it is not common knowledge.

No need to continue apologizing. We responded because you asked for suggestions. Thank goodness we are familiar with this sort of misunderstanding and caught your mistake before you ended up wasting a lot of time or money.

If anything, you should probably thank us for pointing out to you that you are asking for suggestions in the wrong area (about 4-6 hours away from where you intended to look). We could have just let you go on and get lots of names from all over Upstate... then spend hours checking on the suggestions only to find out that they are 4-6 hours away from NYC... or even worse, let you book a photog from this area then be SOL when you show up in NYC for your pictures.

And yet you still sound stupid. Monica was simply letting you know that when we say Montreal, we know its not the same as Quebec. And while you say you know that NYC is in NY but not the same as NY....you still came to a Central NY page rather than a New York City page.

And youre right, none of us had to waste our time and answer you, but we have a bit of class and wanted to inform you that you may be in the wrong board all the while answering your original question b/c you never actually told us where in NY you were going. We gave you the benefit of the doubt, hoping you didn't come to a Central NY board looking for venders downstate (b/c like we said, outsiders always assume NYC = NY). Unfortunately you touched an annoyance nerve with us when stating that you did mean NYC and now youre saying you KNOW its not the same...and now we're simply irritated with you.

So Im sure I speak for all of us when I say we'd appreciate you taking you Inserted Candaian Accent and moving along to board you should have gone to in the first place.
