Vendor Reviews

I don't usually post much on here but feel compelled to share our vendor reviews. Our wedding was on May 22 in Truro.

VENUE Pamet Harbor Yacht Club, A: This is the perfect location for a fun, casual, beachy wedding. The possible downfalls (depending on who you are and how much work you want to do) are you have to bring in everything. This is not a full functioning wedding venue with tables, chairs, staff, etc. This spot worked perfectly for us, beautiful view, a deck for cocktail hour, great room for dancing.

DJ Danny Walsh, A+: Danny was awesome. He is very professional, unobtrusive and plays great music. Everyone was having a great time.

RENTALS American Tent & Table, A+: I was nervous about this company because I had heard a few bad things, but they were great. The guys putting up the tent were as nice as could be. The put it up and took it down when they said they would. It was beautiful, and the other rental items were perfect. Absolutely no issues with them.

HAIR Jess DiGravio, A: Jess came to our house and did all the wedding party's hair, the mom's and myself. She did a fabulous job and was really fun and friendly. I got TONS of comments on my hair and her prices are great.

MAKEUP Sara Stark, A+: Sara also came to the house to do our make up. She did an awesome job!!

PHOTOGRAPHER Ashley O'Dell, A+++: Ashley traveled from the Boston area to photograph our wedding on the Cape and she did an amazing job. I highly recommend Ashley. She is very professional and more importantly insanely talented. Her photos are just amazing and we are so happy we went with her.

FLORIST Flowers by Mary, B-: The flowers were beautiful, but the bouts and bouquets were dying/flimsy by the time we got to the ceremony. One of the flowers on one bout fell off it was so flimsy. Not sure what happened there.. maybe the florist made them a few days ahead? They were definitely not as fresh as they should have been.

CATERER Terra Luna, D: Left this one for last. We had booked Terra Luna and then stumbled upon a really awful review which we brought up with Raina (catering contact). She made us feel better about that bad review however I was still nervous going into the event with her, and she knew it. I figured since she knew we had concerns she would really step it up.

Come the day of the wedding, I only tried one of the apps but from what I hear they were outstanding. Dinner is where things started to go downhill. I am extremely organized and made sure that I gave Raina all of the information she needed. I gave her a list of what tables got what dishes, and exactly how many of each dish we needed (we had fish, meat and vegetarian and 2 kids meals). I told her how many vendor meals we needed and what they wanted (our photographer and assistant are vegetarian). We also discussed getting 2 kids meals (plain pasta with butter) for our flower girl and ring bearer.

They did not follow my lists AT ALL. They basically went to each table with a huge tray of various dishes and asked each individual what they wanted. This slowed up the dinner service A LOT. As my husband and I were walking around to visit tables we noticed some tables had nothing, and some had just the meat and fish dishes and the guests who had ordered vegetarian had NOTHING. We were also told there were no kids meals so my niece and nephew who are very picky eaters ate a roll for dinner.

My biggest issue was that we did not get the entree we ordered. We ordered pork tenderloin and were served pork loin. My husband and I are really into cooking/food and we KNOW the difference. She is now claiming that pork loin and pork tenderloin are the same. If you went to the grocery store right now and picked up the meat labeled pork loin, and the one labeled pork tenderloin, not only would they look different, one is significantly cheaper than the other (the pork loin is cheaper and not as nice a cut). Anyway, the other problem was that the pork was supposed to have a fig port sauce and the people who got served last did not get any figs because they ran out.
Disrespect. This is a big issue with me because the way the caterer and her staff treat my guests and vendors reflects on me. Our vegetarian vendors (photog. and assistant) were asking for their food b.c. they hadn't received anything yet and were being told there were no more vegetarian dishes. My sister had to go into the kitchen to get their food for them (there were more veg. dishes, the caterer just didn't want to cook/give it to them).  Another problem was with my father-in-law. He asked one of the servers about the vegetarian dishes and why they weren't being served, and the server told him in a very condescending way that we only ordered 1, which is A COMPLETE LIE. And this made him feel like an idiot, thank you rude server.
So ultimately we had less time for dancing because dinner took so long, which was very disappointing. It also left some of our guests upset. Raina's food is very good, and her restaurant is excellent, but she does not know how to run a catering business.

Hope these help anyone researching vendors. If you have any questions feel free to ask!

Sorry you had such a negative experience with your caterer!  That definitely can put a damper on the whole day when things like that go wrong :-(

On another note, I am glad to hear you had a good experience with American Tent - we are using them as well, and I had also seen some not so great reviews, but they were recommended by our vendor so we went with her suggestions.

I'm sorry to hear that your experience with Terra Luna was just as terrible as ours was! I was hoping ours was some sort of isolated incident, and was due to some sort of faulty communication on my part (as Raina tried to make me accept responsibility for her horrible service and attitude). Let this serve as a warning to the other brides out there... stay far, far away from Terra Luna. I still shudder when I think about our experience with them.
