Ceremony outline - friend to marry us

Our pastor fell thru due to prior obligations so we asked out friend to marry us (he'll be getting ordained via the internet). We want to be sure our ceremony still has a religous (christian) feel to it, but aren't exactly sure how we should have the ceremony outline go..We'd like it to be short and sweet, but fun too! Maybe have a reading or two..? ideas? Anyone have or have seen great ceremony outlines with a non traditional pastor?

thanks in advance!

If you're not getting married in a church with any specific religious requirements, then you can do whatever you'd like. Just make sure that if there are any requirements in your state of things to be said during the ceremony for it to be valid, that they're said.

You can have a bible passage read, a poem, an excerpt from your favorite book, lyrics from your favorite love song...

Basically, the officiant says an opening reflection (how you're such a great couple, advice on love, blah blah), there might be a reading, you say your vows, you exchange rings, you're pronounced husband and wife. The end.

Haha! Thank you itzMS! Sounds great.  :)

  • My son and his bride were married by a friend.  This was the ceremony outline they developed:

    Prelude
    Processional
    Welcome
    Readings (they had two)
    Unity Ceremony
    Officiant's Remarks
    Exchange of Vows
    Exchange of Rings
    Presentation
    Recessional
