Wedding Woes

Best red wine as a gift?

I know what *I* like and I can ask the store for recommendations, but do you guys have any suggestions?

I'd like to spend $50 or so.  It's a small gesture, but I'd like to thank my boss for reviewing my paperwork and going to the divorce hearing with me.

Wow. For $50, I'd really just ask at the store. I know one person who appreciates wine well enough to know anything about $50 bottles.

I like lots of different ones, but 3 buck chuck is also OK in my book.

Sounds like a great gift. :)

If I spent less on a nice, quality wine, I wouldn't shed any tears.  ;)  I just figured $50 would be a nice enough and within my "extras" budget, even though it wouldn't cover his hourly rate for reviewing the file and attending the hearing with me.

(are there any vineyards in FL or is the climate not right?)
i'd go do some wine tasting and see what you like. there were a few of the TX wineries were represented at the galveston shripm/gumbo fest this weekend doing taste testing- we tried a $50 red, but cannot for the life of me remember the name of the winery.

eta- other than at restaurants on special occasions, we rarely spend more than $10-15/bottle.

Yeah, I'm not going to a tasting for this project.  I care, but not that much.

We have fruit wine here.  And a handful of real grape wines.  But mostly fruit "vineyards."

I basically want to stop into Total Wine and buy a bottle and walk out.  I don't have time to be overly thoughtful.

Go to a reputable wine shop, tell them your $ range and ask them to suggest something.  They will know exactly what you need.

I bought my aunt a bottle that was about 50-60 dollars and it was recommended by my local Bevmo and she is a wine buff and knew and loved the type I got her .I agree with the previous posters, I would ask your local shop.

I agree ask your local shop, the Bevmo by my house helped me choose a 50 dollar (on sale) bottle for my aunt and she is a wine buff and loved the kind I got her and knew of it..

I've had this one and loved it: http://www.orinswift.com/wines/papillon.php

I think it was in the 70 range, don't know if that makes it a bidget breaker, but it was really, really good.
