something special for mom

I am extremely close with my mom, I really want to do something special for her on my Wedding day, as dad gets to do all the "big" things.  I don't want to have them both walk me down the aise,as A. she is very traditional  B. she has looked forward to watching my dad and me come down the aisle for years now and C. I wouldn't want to take anything away from him. It doesn't have to be anything big or public, I just want to somehow show her how important she is to me, espcially on my big day...any suggestions welcome!

  • I am also very close with my mom.  I ordered her a personalized handkerchief from http://www.etsy.com/shop/MisterandMrs .   I plan on giving it to her while we get ready so we can spend some quality time together before the craziness.  Also, you can have her help you put on your jewelry to make her feel involved and special.  It also makes for gorgeous photographs.

  • It may not sound like much, but I got up a little early on my wedding day and spent some quality time with my mom, just the two of us.  It was only 30-45 mins, but it meant a lot for the two of us to be together before the craziness of the day began.  I gave her a gift (earrings) and hoped she'd give me some motherly advice... she was so overwhelmed (in a good way) that she didn't have advice for me that day but shared it a few weeks later.  It was special and I'm glad I did it.  She wasn't looking for any spotlight moments so this was perfect for us.

  • Thanks ladies!  This was exactly the kind of ideas I was looking for, I love the idea of waking up a bit early to spend some quiet time with her before the chaos begins, ESP since I haven't lived home in over a year, but will be sleeping there the night before.  I was also planning on getting the personalized handkerchief so that would be a nice time to give it to her.

  • My mom is the only parent I've ever had. At the wedding I dedicated her favorite song to her and we danced to it.  It wasn't a spotlight dance but it was very special.

  • you can buy her a blank journal and fill out the first few pages for her with the understanding that you will pass it back and forth between eachother for the rest of your life.  Therefore you can make notes about all of the special moments and write eachother continuous letters. ;)

When you get to the end of the aisle you can pluck one of the flowers from your bouquet and give it to her.

You can buy her something to wear that day - ie a little hair pin, bracelet, etc...

you can toast her when all of the girls get to your house and thank you for all that she is to you.  :)
  • Hello! I totally feel the same way.  After all my bridesmaids come down the aisle I am having my brother walk my mother down last before my father and I come, so she still gets to see us come down.  Good luck!!
  • Will you have any special readings at the ceremony? Or perhaps you can include a special reading that for her to do. Maybe there is an excerpt from a favorite book or poem of hers or something she used to read to you. I attended a vow renewal where the mom had her her eldest daughter and son read an excerpt from the Velveteen Rabbit as it was her favorite book to read to them. I thought it was so touching!

This. I totally forgot! We did the "Last Kiss before the First Kiss" during our ceremony. Basically, as the first people to kiss them and welcome them into the world, the moms come to the front and give the bride and groom their last kiss as single people. It was a great moment for our moms. Here's more info:

  • What if you have a special dance and your new husband dances with her?

This is such a great idea - I wish I had known about this before our wedding.  It would have been nice to honor our mothers this way.

  • I saw this cute idea on pintrest where you take a piece of your dress from alteration scraps and make a necklace. I really want to do this and have my mom wear it for the wedding!
