I am making a CD of our favorite songs along with songs for the wedding (first dance, father-daughter dance, etc.) Then I am making the cover the main color of our wedding and I plan to place them on the dinner plates in the reception to add extra color when guests first walk in.

The only thing I cannot figure out... will this end up being really expensive? Our estimated guest list is about 75.

Honestly, no one wants a CD of music that YOU like. It's also a lot of work to make CDs. Yes, it can get expensive. Do something edible or skip the favors completely and save the money. No one expects favors.

What Mrs.B said. Your mum/grandmother will probably be the only person who keeps it besides yourself.
Also what would a couple or family do with multiples of the same cd?

Heck, we have a CD of all of our music played at the wedding that the DJ made for us. We've never used it.

If you're going to do that, then maybe make a DIY dvd of that music, plus perhaps a slideshow of the two of you, and your relationship over the years --- or perhaps baby pictures, etc? people are more likely to pull out pictures, than to listen to a CD of songs they might hate.

personally i love cd favors, but my friend/family circle is really into sharing music. so it probably depends on your crowd. if you guys don't usually share music, then ditto mrs. b, i'd skip favors or just go with something edible.

if you do it, i would make 50 at most, and i'd put them in a basket near the guest book or something. couples will only take one, and some guests will skip it alltogether.

a tower of 50 cds, 50 cases, and 50 printable labels should run you no more than $35.

on one of the boards here someone once said that the only favors people enjoy are the ones that they can eat...I was originally also thinking of doing a CD but have since changed my mind, and am now doing chocolate favors. People will enjoy the chocolate and it actually will cost me less.

My cousin did bags by the candy bar if people wanted to take some home. I can't think of any favors I've received that I've kept & cherished. Photos? Not all guests are interested in a photo/frame you picked out. Bulbs? Neat idea, but most people won't plant them. Music? Not everyone has the same music tastes as you. Random junk? Well, you know. Food is easy, because it's something everyone can enjoy. Or just skip the favors altogether, save yourself the money. Most people won't notice/care.

Every CD favor I've received at a wedding reception has gone straight into the trash. The only CD favor idea that I've thought was a good one was for a wedding in NYC and it was a CD filled with songs about New York.

I got a CD favor for a wedding once. Never listened to it, tossed it in my last move. I would probably just leave it at the table if I ever got another.

My DD did this 6 1/2 years ago. You would be surprised at how many were left on the tables. It just isn't something people get geeked about. I still have hers, but I don't listen to it. Edible is your friend.
